New Teen Fad: Biting Friends

From Flash News:
The vampire craze has gone too far: Teenagers are actually biting each other.
That’s the word of mouth from Vanessa Van Petten, a youth expert who runs radicalparenting.com.
She says the latest trend in high schools is for teens to bite each other in visible spots like the arms, chest, and cheeks.
Friends bite each other as a form of “branding,” to let everyone know who their BFF is. Boyfriends and girlfriends bite each other to mark their territory.
While the nibbles are noticeable, they don’t break skin.
Van Petten says they aren’t sexual, so they’re probably not the “new hickey.”
The bizarre biting – prevalent in Florida high schools – may be, in part, influenced by the Twilight ranchise.
Since biting is romanticized in the vampire saga, teens think being bitten is attractive.
Van Petten worries that the “love bites” give teens a warped sense of what friendship and loyalty really means.
