We Think He Got It Right The First Time . . .

Where Does The Root Of The Problem Lie?

“Captain Humayun Khan was a hero to our country and we should honor all who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our country safe. The real problem here are the radical Islamic terrorists who killed him, and the efforts of these radicals to enter our country to do us further harm. Given the state of the world today, we have to know everything about those looking to enter our country, and given the state of chaos in some of these countries, that is impossible.

“While I feel deeply for the loss of his son, Mr. Khan who has never met me, has no right to stand in front of millions of people and claim I have never read the Constitution, (which is false) and say many other inaccurate things. If I become President, I will make America safe again.

“Further, Hillary Clinton should be held accountable for her central role in destabilizing the Middle East. She voted to send the United States to war against Iraq, helped lead the disastrous withdrawal of American troops years later that created the vacuum allowing the rise of ISIS, and has never met a regime change she didn’t like (which have all been disasters) – not to mention her invasion of Libya and her abandonment of American personnel in Benghazi. The loss of these lives in Libya is directly traceable to Clinton, but their families’ testimonials were rejected by the media.

“Clinton’s actions have been reckless and have directly led to the loss of American lives. And her extreme immigration policies, as also laid out by American victims in Cleveland, will cause the preventable deaths of countless more — while putting all residents, from all places, at greater risk of terrorism. As Bernie Sanders said on numerous occasions, Hillary Clinton suffers from “bad judgement.” She is not qualified to serve as Commander in Chief."

Way Too Much, Way Too Fa$t And NO Accountability!

A letter from former NJ DOT Commissioner Jamie Fox to legislators, obtained by Americans for Prosperity through an open public records request, confirms that the state is spending upwards of $2 million per mile on building, maintaining and operating its roadway system.
In the correspondence, delivered to Assemblyman Jay Webber (R-26) and Assemblywoman Amy Handlin (R-13) on March 20, 2015, Commissioner Fox acknowledged “…the cost per center line mile is $925,704 per mile.” Adding in New Jersey’s debt service, the state’s per mile road costs approximate the $2 million figure in Reason Foundation’s Highway Report
“Commissioner Fox’s letter is a smoking gun which puts to rest any notion that New Jersey does not have an enormous, out-of-control transportation spending problem,” said AFP spokesman Mike Proto.
“Lawmakers supporting this 23 cent per gallon gas tax hike, and debt-fueled $2 billion a year TTF spending plan, owe taxpayers answers and solutions, not more excuses. AFP once again calls on lawmakers to come together to address our transportation spending problem by making the structural reforms needed to ensure our transportation dollars are being spent prudently and efficiently.”

How Great A Speech Could It Have Been?

Photos taken during Hillary's speech last night.
Top photo: Bill Clinton and son-in-law Mark Mezvinsky.
Bottom: Bill Clinton and vice-presidential candidate Tim Kaine.

Is It 'Shrillness?' Is That The Real Problem Here?

The final ratings for the climactic nights of both conventions are in.
Donald Trump won. Hillary Clinton lost.
Trump attracted nearly 35 million viewers while Hillary's speech barely broke 33 million.
Why did this happen? Let's face it: Trump had no "big stars, big attractions" leading up to his speech. He relied almost solely on his family. Hillary, on the other hand, had Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Joe Biden, Katy Perry, Carole King, Alicia Keys, Paul Simon, Demi Lovato and a variety of other stars.
And yet, Trump won the day, even though his speech was quite long and delivered at an elevated volume.
Why is this so?
The answer is simple.
Hillary is just not a very good public speaker.
She's not a very good storyteller. She's not very convincing. She's not real enough when she's delivering a speech.
A great speech is a sleight of hand. Yes, it's a performance -- but it doesn't play as a performance. Great performances fool us that way, just as great theater naturally brings us to a suspension of disbelief. That's the difference that a true professional makes.
And one other thing -- Hillary is too shrill.
Now, some have said that calling Hillary "shrill" is sexist. But that simply isn't the case.
They never called Margaret Thatcher "shrill." Never.  Golda Meir -- was she "shrill?" No. She was never shrill. Margaret Chase Smith (the REAL pioneer) was never shrill. Ditto Millicent Fenwick. Claire Booth Luce? Never called "shrill." How about Jeanne Kirkpatrick? NOT shrill. All of these women were great speakers.
Having written hundreds of speeches and having taught public speaking for many years at the college level, I'll simply point out that, whether you're a man or a woman, the sound of your voice and your pitch and tone will directly impact whether or not you succeed in getting your message across. And you cannot separate the message itself from the delivery.
The best public speakers, regardless of gender, almost never reach the highest and lowest octave levels. Their delivery is modulated and the pitch and tone are in sync with the cadence to add emphasis or limit emphasis.
Taken all together, the most well-delivered speeches have an ebb and flow and they peak (both in form and substance) at about two-thirds of the way through. That's the climax or the peroration -- the "nut" of the speech. This is the moment when the speaker either finally wins us over or doesn't.
We are drawn to people with pleasant voices who are able to master pitch, tone and cadence for ultimate impact. We want speakers to show that mastery -- we want them to to succeed. When they don't, we're disappointed.
Take a look at the brief clip of Thatcher before and after her voice training. She underwent a training program which included special humming exercises aimed at lowering the pitch level at which she formerly spoke.

From tapes of speeches made before and after receiving training, you can hear a marked difference. Thatcher showed that she could master the art of public speaking When she spoke, she sounded self-assured and in control. These are qualities that people look for (and listen for) in a leader -- male or female.
Going back through history, Lincoln's voice was quite high-pitched. Daniel Day Lewis came closest to nailing it in the movie, Lincoln. Lincoln did not have a particularly pleasant voice. He might not succeed today. Teddy Roosevelt did not have a very authoritative voice but he was fortunate as his emergence predated mass radio broadcasts. If the pitch and tone of an amplified voice didn't matter, John Gilbert might have continued to be a great movie star after the emergence of talkies. It did and he wasn't.
In 1968 Hubert Humphrey sounded too chatty and in 1972 George McGovern sounded a bit like Liberace. Both lost to Richard Nixon who learned to moderate his tone and control his vitriol.
Gender doesn't matter. Delivery does!

Revealed: The Really BIG Story Today

Ahem, Ahem . . . What Was THAT All About, Huh?

Hillary was constantly clearing her throat and/or coughing during last night's speech. What's with that? And, did you notice that she wore no American flag lapel pin? None!

If HE Didn't Find It Worth Watching, Why Should You?

Bill Clinton dozes off during Hillary's heavily-winded oratory last night as Tim Kaine looks concerned. At one point Kaine notices that cameras are catching the former president napping and Kaine moves forward to block their view.
Let's just put it this way: If HE didn't find it inspiring, why should you?

In A Rigged Fantasyland Devoid Of Truth, Honor

"At Hillary Clinton’s convention this week, Democrats have been speaking about a world that doesn’t exist. A world where America has full employment, where there’s no such thing as radical Islamic terrorism, where the border is totally secured, and where thousands of innocent Americans have not suffered from rising crime in cities like Baltimore and Chicago.

"In the Democrats’ fantasy world, there is no problem with Hillary Clinton maintaining an illegal, exposed server full of classified information that could have been hacked by any foreign enemy, and in which Hillary Clinton risked prison time to delete 33,000 emails that were simply about yoga and wedding planning. In this world, there is no Hillary Clinton disaster in Syria, Libya and Egypt, ISIS doesn’t merit a mention, Iran isn’t on the path to nukes, convention stages don’t need American flags, and our great men and women of law enforcement, our police, do not need to be honored.

"I propose a different vision for America, one where we can break up Washington’s rigged system, and empower all Americans to achieve their dreams. In our vision, we will put America First.

"If we deliver this change, the future is limitless and we will Make America Great Again for everyone."

-Donald J. Trump

So Now, Has He Really Got Her TRAPPED?

Charles Krauthammer discusses Donald Trump's call for Russia to find Hillary Clinton's missing emails, and how the Clinton campaign's response belies a total contradiction.

Anyway You Look At It, It's A 'Loser!'

New Jersey State Senator Mike Doherty (R-23) reiterated his opposition to increasing New Jersey’s gas tax, calling the proposal a “loser” for New Jersey.

Sen. Jennifer Beck and Sen. Mike Doherty held a press conference to oppose a gas tax increase proposal at the New Jersey State House on June 15, 2016. (SenateNJ.com)

“I say the gas tax plan is a ‘loser’ because we would lose so much should it be enacted,” said Doherty. “We’d lose the incentive to study our highest-in-the-nation road construction costs. We’d lose business at gas stations and throughout communities along our borders with Pennsylvania and New York. Most important, overtaxed New Jersey drivers would lose more of their hard-earned income to fund projects that have nothing to do with roads.”
Doherty has long-called for a study to examine excessive state transportation costs as the starting point of any transportation funding discussion. He is the sponsor of S-1888, which would create the “State Transportation Cost Analysis Task Force.”
“It’s inconceivable that we’re not looking for ways to make our transportation spending more efficient,” said Doherty. “How can we ask drivers to pay even a penny more at the pump if we can’t demonstrate that we’re using the money they already send us wisely?”
The Senator highlighted how New Jersey businesses and border communities currently benefit due to our state’s low gas tax relative to that of neighboring states.
“There’s a tremendous amount of commerce that occurs along our side of the Delaware that’ll be put at risk should this massive gas tax increase pass,” said Doherty. “If you take away a big incentive for Pennsylvanians to cross the river, it’ll hurt a host of local businesses that they visit after filling their tanks. This could be disastrous for many New Jersey towns.”
Finally, Doherty noted that while “safe roads and bridges” is the oft-repeated line recited by gas tax proponents, they’re not being honest about how the new gas taxes collected from drivers would actually be spent.
“Nobody is telling the public the truth that the special interests are already lining up with their hands out to fund multi-billion light rail lines in the corners of the state,” added Doherty. “Tell me again how that’ll keep drivers in Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren counties safe. No matter how you look at it, the gas tax plan is a loser for New Jersey.”

Why Hasn't THIS Story Been Told, Huh?

Women in America are the freest in the world, yet many feminists tell us women are oppressed. They advocate this falsehood through victim mentality propaganda and misleading statistics, such as the gender wage gap myth. How The Big Moment Missed Its Target

From our friends at Save Jersey:
By Matt Rooney | The Save Jersey Blog
There were some noticeable gaps in Bill’s retelling of the Clinton Family History on Tuesday night, Save Jerseyans.

The irony of wrapping up a girl power-themed DNC evening with Slick Willie shouldn’t be lost on anyone with a wife/daughter/girlfriend.

That being said, despite the many controversial aspects of his family’s true history, I believe former President Bill Clinton‘s speech could’ve gone from ‘meh’ to great had he actually acknowledged the affairs.

“And when I wavered in my duties as a parent and a spouse, Hillary never did” or something like that.

It would’ve made the speech seem less… slick.

Every persuadable voter listening was thinking about whether he’d mention their marital troubles as the talented but aging politico droned on (and on) with a cherry-picked account of his storybook romance (snicker) with the Democrat nominee.

You know it’s true; it was the elephant in a room of donkeys.

That omission was a major missed opportunity for the campaign, likely as a result of the former president’s arrogant unwillingness to acknowledge fault on prime time television. He’s a selfish man. A weak, fatally flawed leader. Always has been, always will be.

Ask any of his girlfriends.

Just A Few Things You May Not Have Known . . . .

Christie Says NO! To Latest Gas Tax Hike Scheme

From our friends at Save Jersey:
By Matt Rooney | The Save Jersey Blog
Chris Christie will NOT sign off on the Democrats’ new gas tax/TTF fix, Save Jerseyans, a deal cut without his input during last week’s Republican convention.

He issued the following statement on Monday evening:
“I reviewed this weekend the Democrats’ latest plan to fund the Transportation Trust Fund through a massive gas tax hike that does not represent tax fairness to the residents of New Jersey. Therefore, I cannot support it.
“I proposed a significant plan for tax fairness, one that included a reduced sales tax and retirement income tax cuts to offset any increase in the gas tax. The Assembly overwhelmingly approved that plan. The Democrat Senate responded by doing what Democrats always do on taxes: impose an immediate massive tax hike with a promise of future tax relief long after I am out of office. It is unfortunate that Speaker Prieto has now given in to this failed approach.
“As I have said for two years, any solution for a Transportation Trust Fund must have as its foundation tax fairness. This proposal does not. Hopefully when they return to New Jersey after the Democrat National Convention in Philadelphia, the Democrats will put forward a plan consistent with that principle.
Their current proposal, however, is dead on arrival.”
