No way Obama dumps Biden. Unless Biden has a clear health condition or some other legitimate reason to drop out on his own volition (and not one that is simply a cover story), it would reek of a panic move while not improving Obama's standing one bit. It could only hurt Obama, not help him.

The only candidate in modern times to dump their running mate during the campaign was George McGovern. And it didn't exactly help McGovern, did it?

And BTW, Joe Biden isn't going to make one bit of difference this November.

Dan, I definitely respect your beliefs and those of the Catholic church. But I personally don't think marriage should be looked at strictly as a means to an end - having children and procreating. Does that mean that the marriage of a man and woman who, for whatever reason, don't have children is somehow weaker or less meaningful? Is there something wrong with the idea of marrying simply for the sake of having a companion you care about to share your life with? Can marriage be something unto itself and not just a step that must be completed to "be fruitful and multiply?"

I understand your argument about Portman, and it's a fair one. But Portman also was one of Bush's budget chiefs. Given that the surpluses under Clinton (however misleading they were) turned back into deficits under Bush and started us down the fiscal path we're on now, having one of Bush's budget chiefs as running mate may not be the smartest move politically. Romney's criticism of Obama's fiscal irresponsibility loses a little of its oomph if Romney then chooses a former budget chief who served under another President who exploded the deficit.

If Romney wants a staid, low-key, non-colorful choice from a swing state, I'd suggest Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell.

Because of media exposure and convention wisdom that Romney needs more Hispanic votes, my guess is that Rubio will be the top vote getter but he has no executive experience and his amnesty plan conflicts with Romney's statements on illegal immigration, which would make Romney look like a flip-flopper. Rubio, at age 40, has plenty of time to make a national impact but it shouldn't be this time. Right now, I think I'd like to see Romney pick Bobby Jindal or Bob McDonnell. Allen West would appeal to conservatives and perhaps some minority voters but his very strongly worded opinions may be too much for Romney. If Romney is elected, I'd like to see Kelly Ayotte as attorney general.

I respectfully disagree with this analysis. Whatever likeability Carter and H.W. Bush may have had, their respective re-election opponents were far more so.

Romney can't pull off the "guy you'd want to have a beer with" act the way Bill Clinton and George W. Bush and Ronald Reagan could. He just can't. And every time he tries to do so, he comes off as very awkward, forced and phony.

Romney is who he is. His best shot is to play the competence card and say "we've tried having a President who was charismatic and an inspiring orator and look where that got us." Then let the chips fall where they may.

Catholic Bishops were naïve to support Obamacare in the first place. The abortion / contraception mandate should not have taken them by surprise. Did they really think that they would be exempt? Did they really think that they could make a deal with the devil? Their liberalism - aka trying to be compassionate with other peoples money (taxpayer)- bit them in the back side. Maybe they will wake up before November. Amazingly, they still want Obamacare – they just want to be exempt from providing abortion and contraception. In other words, they want to be “just a little bit pregnant”. Sorry. It does not work that way.

Some say Catholic charities and hospitals will go out of business before they will pay to have a child murdered. I suspect that many will – which is exactly what Obama wants - to make everyone dependent on the government. Statists despise private charity. The Catholics played right into his hands.
