Eleanor Roosevelt Scores Highest

Eleanor Roosevelt scored highest in our First Ladies in History poll.
Nearly a third of you (28%) say that Eleanor Roosevelt was the finest First Lady ever.
Indeed, Mrs. R. was often referred to as the "first lady of the world."
And she always was a lady - a grand lady who challenged us to think anew about important issues, demonstrated compassion toward all and called on us to follow the better angels of our nature.
She was a formidable leader in her own right - every bit the equal of her famous husband.
A close second in our poll was Abigail Adams at 20%. Mrs. Adams was recently popularized anew via the book and series, John Adams.
Third was the delightful Dolley Madison with 17%.
All of the top three were vivid, independent-minded personalities.
Martha Washington was fourth with 15% followed by the great Jacqueline Kennedy (10%) and Mamie Eisenhower (2%) with Lady Bird Johnson and Edith Wilson scoreless this time around.
