Help PHS Plant Trees this Fall!November 23 & 24, various locations
PHS Tree Tenders will plant about 900 trees in more than 40Philadelphia neighborhoods and in the surrounding counties during the weekend of November 23 & 24. New volunteers are welcome! Plant One Million partners in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware will also host tree plantings this fall. For dates, locations, and contact information, please click here. Special thanks to the Philadelphia Phillies and ARAMARK for their support of Plant One Million through Home Runs for Trees. Now in its second year, this partnership plants a tree for each home run hit by a Phillies player—the team hit 140 homers this year.
PECO Building Gets New Landscape
PHS recently completed a renovation of the plaza at PECO’s downtown building at 23rd and Market streets in Philadelphia. The PECO design consists of more than thirty large trees, over a thousand perennials, andthousands of mixed bulbs. Next year, PHS will add a potpourri of annuals and vines. The re-designed landscape provides a beautiful relaxation space for employees and visitors.

Keith Haring Mural & Garden Restored
The Neighborhood Gardens Trust (NGT), managed by PHS, worked with Philadelphia’s Mural Arts Program, Composite Landscape Design, and other contractors to restore a mural painted by renowned artist Keith Haring in 1987 on the side of a house in Point Breeze, along with the adjacent sitting garden, owned by NGT. New fencing and benches reflect the colors of the mural, and the garden provides a comfortable space to experience the artwork. The artist's family turned out for the celebration; Haring died in 1990.
