When I heard that the president reminded everyone at the
National Prayer Breakfast that Christians were just as vicious as the
guys who decapitated a number of innocent multinational journalists and
immolated a courageous young Jordanian pilot, I was again reminded of
just how tone deaf this man truly is.
My first thought was: “Really?” I know he has a problem calling
the ISIS folk terrorists, and he’s got a natural aversion to linking
Islam to acts of brutality, but to try and make 21st-century jihadism
synonymous with acts that occurred hundreds, if not millennia ago is the
sign of an annoying, clueless sophist.
It’s one thing not to want to offend the many good Muslims out
there with a blanket accusation of guilt for the acts of evil men (and
equally evil women, assuming those under the burqas are actually
female.) It is quite another to try and ignore the outsized role radical
Islam has played in the terror and destruction of innocents over the
past 20 to 30 years.
