Philadelphia Orchestra Association Board Chairman Richard Worley and his wife, Leslie Anne Miller, have a long history of supporting the Orchestra, contributing extraordinary time and treasure since the 1980s. Worley has been an ambassador and staunch advocate for the Orchestra's cultural legacy, inspiring the Philadelphia philanthropic community to give record-breaking contributions to the Orchestra. Now, in a further gesture to the institution they love so dearly, the couple has recently made a remarkable gift of $10 million to the Orchestra. The donation, from the Leslie Miller and Richard Worley Foundation, will act as the anchor for the Orchestra's Comprehensive Campaign. The gift was made in tandem with Worley's renewal as chairman, through August 2018. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of The Philadelphia Orchestra Association from 1997 to 2003 and from 2006 to the present, serving as chairman since 2009. During his tenure he has led The Philadelphia Orchestra through a remarkable transformation, including the hiring of both President and CEO Allison Vulgamore and Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. "I am extraordinarily honored and humbled to continue in a leadership role with The Philadelphia Orchestra and to do so alongside Yannick and Allison is a privilege beyond compare," said Worley. "The Board's validation of our work strengthens our resolve to advance the Orchestra's global stature while bolstering our commitment to the City of Philadelphia. Leslie and I wanted to continue our support with this gift, and offer it as further incentive for others to join us in underpinning the success of this vibrant orchestra we so love." |
