Time For Crunch, Crunch, Munch, Munch!

Nutritional Development Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia (NDS) will celebrate National Apple Crunch Day with a special celebration at Saint Christopher School in Northeast Philadelphia. More than 460 students from Pre-K 3 through eighth grade will crunch into an apple to raise awareness for healthy eating. Celebrated during National Apple Month, National Apple Crunch Day encourages youth and families to eat apples and apple products as a healthy snack.

Brooke Mullen, Assistant Director of Community Relations for NDS said, “On October 24th, millions of people around the country will crunch into an apple, an action to celebrate eating healthy foods, while raising awareness about eating locally grown produce. We continue to support our local vendors, including Bear Mountain, which will provide the apples for our event at Saint Christopher School. Apple Crunch Day is also another great opportunity to bring our school communities together to promote healthy school environments. We are thrilled to join Saint Christopher School in the big ‘crunch,’ where nearly 500 students will join together for the fun event!”

Saint Christopher School is one of 102 schools located throughout the Philadelphia region that has partnered with NDS for the 2017-2018 academic year. NDS partners with these schools to administer the federally funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP) to ensure more 30,000 students have access to breakfast and lunch during the school day.

Note: NDS school meals are funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Pennsylvania Department of Education For more information on Nutritional Development Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, please visit
