Trump Jawboning Private Sector On Prices

President Donald J. Trump inherited an economy battered by years of inflation that crushed working families. Through bold action to restore American energy dominance, slash red tape, and secure fair trade, the Trump Administration is quickly rebuilding the foundation for lasting prosperity.   That leadership is producing results. Across the country, private sector companies are responding to President Trump’s call by delivering tangible price reductions on everyday goods and services — putting money back in the pockets of American workers and families.

Groceries and Everyday Essentials Major retailers are cutting prices on staples that hit household budgets hardest — putting real money back in the pockets of American families. Giant Eagle reduced prices by an average of more than 10% on over 300 top products, including proteins, produce, and pantry favorites. Walmart lowered prices on thousands of everyday items nationwide, including ground beef, fresh corn, paper plates, beverages, and more. Sam’s Club cut prices on more than 250 household essentials. Meijer reduced prices on more than 1,000 popular grocery and household items on a rotating basis. Target reduced prices on thousands of groceries, household items, and other essentials. Kroger is planning its biggest price cuts in years on thousands of items. Albertsons accelerated targeted price reductions and launched its “New Lower Price” program, cutting base prices by at least 8% or $1 on items across meat, seafood, dairy, pantry staples, and other goods. H-E-B dropped prices on thousands of items across its stores. C&S Wholesale Grocers slashed prices on thousands of everyday items at Family Fare, VG’s Grocery, Martin’s Super Markets, and Piggly Wiggly locations across eight Midwestern states. Stop & Shop lowered prices on thousands of items across nearly every department in hundreds of stores throughout the Northeast. Cub Foods reduced prices by about 40% on dozens of grocery items across its Midwestern locations. Piggly Wiggly Food for Less cut prices on meat and other staples across its 14 stores. Costco dropped prices for many of its most popular Kirkland Signature items across multiple categories. PepsiCo lowered retail prices by up to 15% on major snack brands.

Prescription Drugs President Trump’s Most Favored Nation approach is delivering historic cuts to prescription drug prices, with 17 of the world’s largest drugmakers agreeing to bring U.S. prices in line with the lowest paid by comparable developed nations. Novo Nordisk slashed prices on Ozempic and Wegovy to as low as $199–$350 per month and reduced the price of common insulin treatments by 75% through TrumpRx. Pfizer offered average savings of 50% (up to 85%) on primary care treatments and select brands via TrumpRx. Amgen lowered prices on cholesterol drug Repatha, migraine drug Aimovig, and arthritis treatment Amjevita by 60–80%. Eli Lilly lowered the price of migraine treatment Emgality by approximately 60% and diabetes treatment Trulicity by approximately 61%. Multiple additional manufacturers — including Merck, AstraZeneca, Bristol Myers Squibb, Gilead, Sanofi, GSK, EMD Serono, Johnson & Johnson, AbbVie, Regeneron, Boehringer Ingelheim, Genentech, and Novartis — agreed to cut prices on key drugs, with discounts reaching 50–85% on many medicines.

Energy Key energy providers and local networks are delivering targeted savings that lower costs for consumers. The Freedom Fuel Network — a coalition of 25 gas stations across the greater Philadelphia area — lowered prices by approximately 50 cents per gallon. Georgia Power is lowering rates for residential customers by $50/year, delivering total savings of nearly $300 million for all customers. Alliant Energy implemented a five-year rate freeze for residential customers in Iowa. NiSource is set to return $1.4 billion to customers in Indiana through agreements with Amazon and Alphabet. Entergy is set to return $2 billion to customers in Mississippi through an agreement with Amazon. DTE Energy announced it will pause electric rate increases for at least two years.

Automobiles American automakers are making vehicles more affordable for hardworking families. Ford extended employee pricing to all U.S. customers. Stellantis offered buyers 0% financing and deferred monthly payments for 90 days. Chevrolet revived its classic “Heartbeat of America” campaign, offering 90 days of deferred monthly payments and multi-year 0% APR financing options.
