In his Farewell Address to America in 1988, President Reagan had this to say to America's school children:All great change in America begins at the dinner table. So, tomorrow night in the kitchen I hope the talking begins. And children, if your parents haven't been teaching you what it means to be an American, let 'em know and nail 'em on it. That would be a very American thing to do.
Reagan didn't need to make a mass, televised address to kids.
He understood that the attention span of America's kids is short and that they have a lot of other things on their minds.
He also knew that "all great change in America" begins not in school but "at the dinner table."
So, he focused on the real source of change and he said it all in about 50 simple words.
That's why they called him The Great Communicator.
