New Jersey Governor Chris Christie says that when he left his house in Mendham (Morris County) this morning there was hardly any snow on the ground but as he moved south through New Jersey he journeyed right into the Blizzard of 2010.
And it does seem that the further south you go, the worse it gets.
The Governor stopped first in Woodbridge and NJDOT's Traffic Management Center. Then, the Governor journeyed along I-295 to Cherry Hill where he noted that on his way down 295 he saw lots of "commercial truckers driving like idiots." The Governor warned the truckers to mend their ways and told them to "slow down." Though the Governor said that all of New Jersey's major roadways are passable he urged everyone to "Stay inside" through the rest of the day.
"Give us a chance to do the job that needs to be done on the roads and tomorrow the weather will be better and you will be able to get back on the roads," Christie said.
Overall, the Governor commended the State Department of Transportation, the State Police and related agencies on what he considers to be a fine job thus far.
He said he's closely monitoring the situation in the shore areas (Atlantic and Cape May counties) and will be journeying to those areas tomorrow. The shore areas have been plagued with major power outages.
The governor says he's also worried about beach erosion and may ask for federal aid for replenishment.
