Dear friends,There's part of the story about murdered journalist James Foley – who was beheaded by ISIS terrorists in Syria – that you may not know.
Foley had been kidnapped once before in Libya in 2011.  Afterward, Foley wrote a letter to his Catholic alma mater, Marquette University, in which he recounted the power of the Rosary during his struggle:
If nothing else, prayer was the glue that enabled my freedom, an inner freedom first and later the miracle of being released during a war in which the regime had no real incentive to free us.  It didn't make sense, but faith did.
Every Catholic student should read this story!
Meanwhile, Archbishop Robert Carlson is asking Catholic schools to pray daily Rosaries for peace in response to the turmoil and tragedy in Ferguson, Mo.
And 38 Catholic university professors signed a plea calling for an end to the genocide of Christians and other religious minorities in Iraq.
Confronted by tragedy, our Catholic faith is what gives hope… and it's why a Catholic education is so vital to our youth!  Please pray with me and all of our faithful Catholic educators and students for peace, justice, and God's mercy upon the souls of the dead.
Sincerely yours in Christ,

Patrick J. Reilly
President
