On the heels of a press conference at the capitol yesterday, a broad coalition supporting the repeal of New Jersey’s death tax, or estate tax, is also calling on Gov. Christie to support the effort.
A letter to the governor penned by the Family Business Council stated in part, “Simply put: death should not be a taxable event. It makes no sense to force a grieving family to pay a tax on their loved one’s property.” The letter, which includes 29 total signatories, was delivered to the governor’s office on Monday. The coalition plans a sustained, grassroots effort to mobilize the public on the issue and push for the legislation to be voted on by the Legislature this year.
