Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary today announced a revitalization of its music program with the appointment of Rudolph A. Lucente as Director of Sacred Music and Michael Stairs to the new position of Artist in Residence. Both men are recognized organists in the Philadelphia region and perform together as part of the Philadelphia Organ Quartet.
"Saint Charles Seminary is honored to welcome these talented musicians to our community," said Most Reverend Timothy C. Senior, Rector of Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. "We are very excited to have them revitalize our music program, support our liturgical life and share their talents with our seminarians and our entire Archdiocese especially as we prepare to welcome Pope Francis to Philadelphia."
Mr. Lucente comes to Saint Charles with substantial experience in church music as a director, organist, clinician and consultant. He is also widely known as a concert artist, and is a long-time assistant at the Wanamaker Grand Court Organ, as well as associations with Longwood Gardens and the Kimmel Center. Working with the faculty and staff, Mr. Lucente will coordinate a comprehensive program that will support the liturgical life of the Seminary.
Mr. Stairs is the organist for the Philadelphia Orchestra, and for many years held the prestigious Buck Chair of Music at the Haverford School. Following his long tenure as Director of Music at the Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr, PA, Michael continues to serve as a church music consultant along with being an assistant at the Wanamaker Grand Court Organ and concert performances throughout the United States. He will work with the Director of Sacred Music at the Seminary, providing expertise in choral training, appropriate music selection and organ performance.
The Director of Sacred Music and the Artist in Residence will take up their new duties on August 18, 2015.
