Unites States Senator John Barrasso was sworn in to the Senate in 2007 having represented the people of Natrona County in the Wyoming State Senate from 2003-2007. In November 2018, Barrasso was reelected to the U.S. Senate with more than 67% of the vote. He is the dean of Wyoming's congressional delegation and the third-ranking member in the Senate Republican leadership as Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference.
Born and raised in Reading, Pennsylvania, Barrasso is the son of Louise M. Cisco Barrasso and John Anthony Barrasso, Jr. An MD, Barrasso received his BS and MD degrees from Georgetown University and conducted his medical residency at Yale University before moving to Wyoming where he became involved in several medical related organizations. He was State President of the Wyoming Medical Society, President of the National Association of Physician Broadcasters, and a member of the American Medical Association Council of Ethics and Judicial Affairs. Barrasso was also a rodeo physician for the Professional Rodeo Cowboy's Association.
He serves on committees that directly impact Wyoming’s economy, energy interests, public lands, national parks and trade. In addition to other committee assignments, Barrasso is the ranking member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
Senator Barrasso is known by many as Wyoming’s Doctor. During his 24 years as an orthopedic surgeon, Barrasso was named Wyoming Physician of the Year.
Barrasso has three children – Peter, Emma and Hadley. He and his wife Bobbi live in Casper.
