Said to be worth in excess of $300 million, Elton John is one of the wealthiest musicians in the world. He owns homes on various continents, has one of the world's largest private collections of iconic photographs and is only the 19th person ever to acquire EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) status.
He's hugely talented but he can also be quirky, unpredictable, bombastic and unfathomable. One thing's for sure: he knows how to collect valuable stuff and he periodically disposes of chunks of his collection in auctions that bring in added millions.
He's doing it again right now at Christie's auction house at Rockefeller Center in New York. We went to see an assortment of his items currently up for auction yesterday. What we found was a vast, relentless, sometimes outrageous and altogether staggering display of flamboyance. We haven't seem anything like this since we visited the old Liberace Museum in Vegas years ago. Anyway, here are some of the photos we took amidst the collection:
