New Jersey State Senator Michael Testa (R-Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland) criticized Governor Mikie Sherrill for refusing to confirm that there are no non-citizens on New Jersey’s voter rolls, arguing that her inability to provide a definitive answer underscores the need for stronger election safeguards. Governor Sherrill made the comment during an appearance on WNYC’s Ask the Governor.

“The Governor’s refusal to definitively confirm that our voter rolls are free of non-citizens is exactly why we need common-sense safeguards like voter ID,” said Senator Testa. “It is completely unacceptable that, with just days before the midterm elections, these basic security questions remain unanswered and legislation to address them has not been enacted. It has been months since the Democrats’ voter fraud scandal came to light, yet Governor Sherrill and the Democratic legislative majority have failed to act.”
Senator Testa, a sponsor of S-68 which would establish voter ID requirements in New Jersey’s elections, said the Governor’s response highlights why lawmakers must act to ensure the integrity of the state’s election process.
“Governor Sherrill has publicly voiced support for voter ID. It’s time for her and the Democrats to put their money where their mouth is and pass S-68,” Senator Testa continued. “New Jersey residents deserve confidence that our elections are free, fair, and secure.”
