Upstairs at Virgil's, just the other night. |
We love the pulled pork and the fries at Virgil's. So let us say it flat out: Virgil's is just the best damned barbecue in town -- and one of the very best in the nation!
We've been going to Virgil's f-o-r-e-v-e-r.
But Virgil's, while being the original New York City barbecue restaurant, has evolved over the years and has become known for much more than just its warm service and exceptional barbecued ribs, chicken, brisket, and pork. Its large menu features a wide array of culinary styles, from Mexican Cuisine, Creole and Cajun, to Soul and Comfort food. There are fish specials every day, and even a vegetarian guest can find a number of tantalizing salads and grilled items to choose from. An in-house bakery produces hot buttermilk biscuits, cornbread, and dessert specialties that are a perfect way to end the meal.
A lively bar with extensive beer and specialty cocktail menus, including frozen fruit cocktails of the day, is a fun place to gather and watch live sporting events on numerous large high definition TVs.
So, it's much more than barbecue.
But beyond even all that, Virgil's means great service. And when we dropped in the other night we were lucky enough to be served by Kavi Patel, one of the friendliest, most attentive, most courteous waiters we've ever met. We were in a hurry and we made that known to Kavi right from the start. And wow, did Kavi go to work for us. And he did it all so promptly and so smoothly that we were left with time to spare -- time to chat with Kavi and thank him for being so kind and so understanding.
Kavi, in are book you are clearly a Big Broadway Star. Bravo!
BTW: Virgil's is now all decked out for Christmas. Don't miss it!
