Governor Chris Christie is here in front of a capacity crowd at the Crowne Plaza Cherry Hill and we're with him.
Right now he's talking about his friendship with Democrat Senate President Steve Sweeney. He says Sweeney and he have a good relationship but that sometimes Sweeney calls him "unspeakable" names. "The Star Ledger seems to think the names aren't unprintable but to me they're still unspeakable," Christie adds, jokingly.
"Like Christmas, every year the Democrat legislature sends me a proposed tax increase and every year I send it back with a big, fat, red veto. And that's what we're gonna continue to do, every year," Christie says to rousing applause.
When it comes to taxes Christie says the Democrats "can't help themselves. . . . They are just not tax cutters. It's your money, not theirs and they want it."
Christie says there is money in the state budget for a tax cut that he has proposed and he says that state revenue permits such a cut. He vehemently decries "hypocrisy" in Trenton and points to millions of dollars in Democrat appropriations which would siphon off funds from the state budget. Christie describes the situation as a "circus."
Christie says that the very same Democrats who say the state has no money to cut taxes are racking up tens of millions of dollars in appropriations and pork barrel spending.
Most of the appropriations have no specified funding sources.
Of the Democrat legislators Christie says "I am tired of them lying, and that's what they're doing."
Christie tells the members of the South Jersey Chamber of Commerce: "I can't do this by myself. You need to get engaged. You need to call BS on them (the Democrat legislators.)"
