Newman Society Fights For Strong Catholic Identity

An important message from the Cardinal Newman Society:

Happy Feast of St. Francis!  Please join me today in praying for our Jesuit Pope Francis, who has been asked by Georgetown University alumni, students and others to help steer the Jesuit institution toward truth and fidelity.

This morning, Exorcist author William Peter Blatty and his associates announced that they submitted their canon law petition to the Vatican, reportedly at the recommendation of Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington. Thanks to decades of reporting by your Cardinal Newman Society, the petition Georgetownincludes 120 pages of documentation about Georgetown's abuse of its Catholic identity.

Such reporting is essential to our mission, even though some would rather that Catholic families didn't know the truth about Catholic education. Consider this week's criticisms by pro-abortion activists and the president of  Loyola Marymount University.  We'll keep reporting.

And there's all the good news! Next week we'll be announcing the 2014 edition ofThe Newman Guide, celebrating the very best of Catholic higher education.

One of those colleges, the Catholic University of America, has very impressive news this week. Despite provoking the ire of the Chinese government, CUA is providing a distinguished fellowship to exiled Chinese pro-life activist Chen Guangcheng, who will continue to speak out against the brutal violations of human rights in China.  Thank you CUA!
