Americans for Prosperity is reacting to news today that Gov. Christie plans to re-nominate Stuart Rabner as Chief Justice of the state Supreme Court.
“It’s sad to see this is what it has come to,” said AFP state director Daryn Iwicki. “When Gov. Christie was elected taxpayers had hope that one of the most radical supreme courts in the land would be re-made. Instead, if today’s reports are true, the governor has all but waved the white flag of surrender to Steve Sweeney and obstructionists in the majority party.”
“What’s happened with the Supreme Court over the past five years has been nothing short of a disgrace,” railed Iwicki. “Even in Washington D.C., where partisanship reigns, the President still gets to nominate justices and have them heard on the merits, but not here in New Jersey. Instead we have Sen. Sweeney single-handedly undermining the entire democratic process; throwing up every road block imaginable in order to preserve a court that legislates from the bench and furthers a far-left, liberal agenda.”
“This is disastrous news for taxpayers that will have untold consequences on the State for years to come,” complained Iwicki. “So long as there’s Chief Justice Rabner on our state Supreme Court, and so long as the activist Abbott school funding decisions stand, the prospects for real property tax relief become remote at best.”
“Gov. Christie should honor his commitment to taxpayers, nix this reported deal, and put forth a nominee for chief justice who will practice judicial restraint and respect the other branches of government while leading the state’s highest court.”
