The setting was majestic
The sound was enthralling, with perfect acoustics.
And the whole experience was just this side of celestial.
We're talking about our afternoon this past weekend at Concerts at the Cathedral.
On Sunday, The Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia joined with Symphony in C and soloists Antonia Chehovska, Sienna Licht Miller, Abraham Bretón and Ben Wagner in remarkable performances of Jonathan Dove's In Beauty May I Walk, Caroline Shaw's Seven Joys and Beethoven's Ninth Symphony (Ode to Joy).
If you haven't experienced Concerts at the Cathedral (Philadelphia's Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul) you haven't experienced one of the great musical delights of a city that is renowned for its rich classical music tradition.
Since its opening in 1864, the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul has enjoyed incredibly enriching musical experiences. From the days of William Thunder, Principal Organist for the Philadelphia Orchestra under famed director Leopold Stokowski, to the days of Peter LaManna, one of the United State’s leading Directors of Liturgical Music. Since its inception in 2011, Concerts at the Cathedral Basilica continues to liven the walls of this 150 year old cathedral with musical ensembles from all over the world.
Tickets for these magnificent concerts are very reasonably priced from $22.50 to $52.50 depending on the program, with substantial general admission price reductions for seniors and students.
Two more concerts are scheduled this season and the whole experience is absolutely glorious.
We thank Karen Connor and Judith Spires for introducing us to this extraordinary season of music and commend Concerts at the Cathedral to you without hesitation!
