A Trailblazing Commitment To Saving Lives!

This morning, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson will meet with recovery clients at the Rescue Mission of Trenton, which provides residential substance abuse treatment to those in need. The Governor is holding similar roundtable meetings throughout the state in an effort to hear directly from those suffering from the disease of addiction about what we can do to assist them in making a full recovery.
Governor Christie first visited the Rescue Mission in 2012 to call for the expansion of New Jersey’s successful Drug Court program with mandatory treatment for non-violent, drug-addicted offenders throughout all 21 counties. Since that time, he has heard countless stories about how Drug Court has helped people get their lives back on track. The Governor came back to the Rescue Mission in 2014 to announce the statewide expansion of the use of Narcan and in 2016 alone, there were 10,000 deployments of the drug that reverses the effects of an overdose.
Last month, Governor Christie made an unprecedented State of the State speech focused on tackling the opioid crisis.
Here are some highlights from coverage of the Governor’s initiatives since the State of the State:
