Governors, Others Announce Endorsements Of Romney

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam made the following statement on Tennessee’s upcoming primary:
“With two strong victories in Arizona and Michigan, Mitt Romney continues to prove that he has what it takes to defeat President Obama in November. Gov. Romney has a solid track record of turning around troubled situations like the one we face in Washington.  He did it in the private sector, as leader of the Salt Lake City Olympics, and as governor of Massachusetts.  He has the kind of common-sense approach this country needs to turn the economy around and put people back to work.  I encourage Tennesseans to join me in casting their vote for Gov. Mitt Romney in Tuesday’s election.”

Former Oklahoma Senator Don Nickles made the following statement on Oklahoma’s upcoming primary:
“Conservatives propelled Mitt Romney to victory in Arizona and Michigan and they are supporting him in Oklahoma because he is the only candidate with private sector experience and a bold plan to get our economy back on track. Throughout the campaign, Mitt Romney has displayed the same steady and reliable leadership he has shown throughout his life in business, the Olympics, and as governor – Oklahomans have been waiting for this steady leadership in the White House. I urge all Oklahomans who want to stop mortgaging our future to China, get Washington out of our lives, and ensure that our future is brighter than our past to vote for Mitt Romney on Tuesday – our country can’t afford four more years of President Obama.”

Massachusetts Republican Leader Brad Jones made the following statement on Massachusetts’ upcoming primary:
“Mitt Romney’s two strong victories last night prove that he is the best candidate to unite our party and defeat President Obama in November. Massachusetts voters are looking for someone to go to Washington to clean up the mess created by Washington politicians. Mitt Romney is a Washington outsider who spent his career in the private sector – the other candidates in the race are creatures of Washington and can’t be expected to clean up the mess they created. He has the experience and leadership record that will be needed to turn around our economy, shrink government, and put an end to our massive debt and deficits. This Tuesday, I urge all Massachusetts Republicans who want to defeat President Obama and bring real change to Washington to vote for Mitt Romney.”

Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell made the following statement on Virginia’s upcoming primary:
“Mitt Romney’s two victories last night prove that his message of more jobs, less debt, and small government is resonating with the American people. Virginians are looking for a results-oriented conservative like Mitt Romney to reverse the failed policies that have hindered our nation’s economic recovery. Mitt has a strong track record of conservative leadership both in business and as Governor of Massachusetts. We need a president who has actually spent time in the private sector and knows what it takes to create jobs. That’s why I’m proud to stand with him and urge my fellow Virginians to do the same."

Mitt Romney today announced the support of former Montana Governor Marc Racicot.
“I’m honored to have the endorsement of a man who has spent so much time in the service of this country,” said Mitt Romney. “First as an officer in the Army JAG Corps, then as a state prosecutor, and finally as the Governor of Montana, Governor Racicot knows what sort of leadership we need to restore American greatness and bring this country back to where it belongs.”

Mitt Romney today announced the support of Ohio Auditor Dave Yost. Yost will serve as a Co-Chair of the Romney for President Ohio Leadership Team.
“I’m pleased to earn Dave’s support,” said Mitt Romney. “Dave understands the need for our country to restore our economy and create jobs for the American people. In the months to come, I look forward to working with Dave to spread my message of more jobs, less spending, smaller government.”

Mitt Romney today announced his leadership team in Ohio. The team will be Chaired by U.S. Senator Rob Portman and Co-Chaired by former U.S. Senator George Voinovich, Congressmen Mike Turner, Steve LaTourette and Jim Renacci, State Senate President Tom Niehaus, former Ohio Attorney General Betty Montgomery, and former State Treasurer and Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters.

Monkees' Davy Jones, 66 Dead Of Heart Attack

Singer Davy Jones of The Monkees has died of a heart attack, the medical examiner's office in Martin County, Fla., has confirmed.
Jones was 66.
At the height of their popularity the 1960s British singing  quartet sold more than 50 million records.
Formed in 1965 for the TV show of the same name, The Mokees hits included "Daydream Believer," "Last Train to Clarksville," "I'm a Believer," and "Pleasant Valley Sunday." They also charted with the theme song from the show.
The group disbanded in 1971 but in 2008, Yahoo Music named Jones the top teen idol of all time.

The Votes Tell The Story: It's Romney!

Numbers don't lie.
And when it comes to the GOP presidential nomination, the numbers tell the story.
In this case, the numbers are the vote totals.
Consider this: Last night in Arizona and Michigan respectively Mitt Romney tallied more votes than he did four years ago.
And overall Romney has gathered far more votes than any other candidate.
Here's more:
  • Romney has now tallied nearly two million votes.
  • Romney leads his nearest rival by nearly three-quarter-million votes.
  • Romney is the only GOP candidate to have reached and surpassed one million votes.
  • Romney has won more popular votes than Santorum and Gingrich combined.
  • Romney has gathered almost as many votes as Santorum, Gingrich and Paul combined.
  • Romney has won in the north, the south, the midwest and the west -- every part of the country.
These are the irrefutable facts.

Here then are the vote totals:
ROMNEY: 1,749,111
Santorum:  978,042*
Gingrich:  932,222
Paul: 462,912
*Note that for all the hoopla surrounding Santorum, he barely edges out Gingrich.

All over the nation republicans have spoken. they're message is strong, clear and simple: ROMNEY!

ROMNEY

Romney 'Big Night" Marks "Giant Step"

From Mitt Romney after his big dual wins in Arizona and Michigan:

"Tonight we have taken a giant step toward a brighter future."

"We need more jobs, less debt, smaller government."

"Our campaign is about more than replacing a president. It's about restoring America's promise."

"We are $15 trillion in debt and America's real unemployment is 15 percent. If this is a recovery, we need a recovery from the so-called recovery."

"President Obama has made the government bigger, more intrusive and more onerous. I'll make it smaller, smarter and more efficient."

"I stand easy to lead our party to victory and our nation back to prosperity. This campaign is about saving the soul of America."

Durable Goods Orders, Home Prices Slip Again

Let's face it, the economic news has not been good. Things are at best tepid. And that's being kind. Each day brings more cause for concern. Here's the latest:
  • New orders for U.S. manufactured goods fell in January by the most in three years as demand fell across the board from machinery to aircraft, suggesting the economy started the year on weaker footing than expected.
  •  Home prices fell in December for a fourth straight month in most major U.S. cities. Prices fell in 19 of the 20 cities in December compared to the same month in 2010. David M. Blitzer, chairman of the S&P's index committee says "If anything, it looks like we might have reentered a period of decline as we begin 2012."

Kid Rock And Mitt Romney? Ohhh Yeah!

Mitt Romney's been using Kid Rock's Born Free as his official campaign song.
But for his big rally in Michigan last night he wanted Detroit's own Kid Rock to come and sing the song live.
Kid Rock is a salt-of-the-earth kinda guy. He's not only an exceptional talent but he's real. What you see is what you get. Rock (who's real name is Bob Ritchie) is someone who never forgets his roots. He's a very pro-America kinda guy: a strong supporter of our troops; a big-time booster of his home city and state and someone who's not shy about giving back to the community.
So before he agreed to perform at the Romney event Kid Rock wanted to meet and chat with the candidate.
Fair enough. Romney and Rock met for more than an hour. They discussed a variety of topics and each man presumably liked what he heard.
Last night Kid Rock officially joined the Romney team live, appearing with Mitt and Ann Romney to perform his song.
Here's how Romney explains it:
"He said, 'If you're elected president, will you help me help the city of Detroit?' I said I would. And then I turned to him, and I said, 'By the way, given the fact that I'm willing to do those things, will you come here and perform a concert tonight for my friends, and he said he would," said Romney. "So I'm happy to introduce a son of Detroit, a friend, a guy who makes great music, who introduces me by DVD everywhere I go - Kid Rock!"
As Kid Rock belted out the lyrics to "Born Free," Romney and his wife Ann stood and listened, tapping their feet, clapping and whistling in support.
Kid Rock is a giant musical talent whose music runs the gamut from rock to blues to country. He's a modern American success story who also has common sense and isn't afraid to defy the conventional wisdom that entertainers must all be part of the air-kissing liberal set.
Bravo!

As Gas Prices Creep Higher, Hold Dems Accountable!

Ohhhh . . . how it hurts when the shoe is on the other foot.
With gas prices actually reaching five dollars a gallon in some parts of the country, President Obama and the Democrats want to run and hide -- or at least pretend it isn't happening.
But they were the first ones to scream "foul" and blame the GOP and George W. Bush when gas prices crept up to only three dollars a gallon. It's true!
In 2007, when the average national price ranged from $2.17 to $3.22, then-Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., demanded that the Federal Trade Commission investigate Big Oil for “price manipulation.” He screamed bloody murder.
In 2008, presidential candidate Obama urged the Justice Department “to open an investigation into whether energy traders have been engaged in illegal activities that have helped drive up the price of oil and food.” Again, he blamed the GOP and Big Oil.
On April 22, 2006, USAToday.com posted an article with the headline “Democrats blame Bush for high gas prices.”
But now?
Well, the Dems are as silent as this year's Best Picture Oscar winner. Nothing. No investigations. No outrage. Nada.
Here's the cold, hard truth: The silence over the recent price run-up is an example of left-wing hypocrisy.
They enjoyed bludgeoning Bush but now that it’s on Obama’s watch they are silent, silent, silent.

Polls: Health Mandate Nix; Rich Shouldn't Pay More

Two new polls just out today spell more bad news for President Obama and his policies.
First, 72 percent of American adults and 56 percent of self-professed Democrats say that the provision in the health-care law signed by President Barack Obama that requires individuals to purchase health insurance or pay a fine is unconstitutional, says the Gallup Poll.
Second, despite President Obama and Democrats’ insistence that the rich “pay their fair share,” three-quarters of likely voters believe the nation’s richest should pay lower, not higher, taxes, according to a poll conducted by the Hill.
The current rate for top earners is 35 percent. Only 4 percent thought it was appropriate to take 40 percent, which is approximately the level that President Obama is seeking from January 2013 onward.

Obama Sinks In Polls, Romney Pulls Ahead

A NEW LOW: The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 26% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -16. Mitt Romney leads the president in a hypothetical 2012 matchup.
Romney earns 45% of the vote, while the president attracts support from 43%. Romney holds a nine-point advantage among unaffiliated voters.
NOTE: Obama's approval rating has dropped six points just since Valentine's Day. Not exactly "hearts and flowers" for the president.

My Oscar Predictions: 80% Correct!

My Oscar predictions were almost perfect.
Almost.
Meryl Streep's Oscar for Best Actress in The Iron Lady was a total surprise.
Most people thought Viola Davis would win for The Help. And so did I.
Of course, I've always been a huge Meryle Streep fan but I honestly did not think she would win.
So now La Streep has three Oscars which means she has tied Ingrid Bergman at three and is just one Oscar away from winning number four which would tie with Katherine Hepburn who still holds the record.
In any event, I picked four of the five top awards which gives me an 80% accuracy rate.
Not bad, huh?

The Oscars: Here's Who Will Win Tonight!

In the midst of economic bad times Oscar will play it safe tonight turning it gold-domed head inward (celebrating the the essence of the movies as exemplified by their earliest years) and backward (into the 1920s, 30s and the 50s and 60s). This will be retro night at the Oscars and Hollywood will finally (and justifiably) pay homage to the Silent Era when The Artist wins Best Picture.
The other Oscars will go to Jean Dujardio (Best Actor) for The Artist, Viola Davis (Best Actress) for The Help. Supporting Oscars will go to Christopher Plummer for Beginners and Octavia Spencer for The Help.
Director Michael Hazenavicius will win for The Artist.
It will be a big night for The Artist which will also take home awards for Best Original Score and Best Editing.
This will be a night for remembering the history and the glory of the movies. And Hugo will also receive several awards including Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction and Best Sound Mixing.

Obama's Record: Here Are The Facts; Just The Facts!

Facts are tough.
They're hard for a lot of people to face.
They can be brutal.
But if you're considering voting for President Obama, you need to face these facts -- and face them now. All of these things have happened since President Obama took office. They happened on his watch. Here are the facts:

1) Unemployment: The number of people unemployed has grown by over a million during Obama’s presidency.

2) Long-term Unemployment: The average duration of unemployment has more than doubled, to an astonishing 40.8 weeks.

3) Jobs: Nearly 1.7 million jobs have been lost.

4) Income: Median household income has declined by nearly $1,000.

5) Poverty: The number of people in poverty has grown by over 6 million.

6) Hunger: Food stamp participation has increased by more than 14 million people, to a devastating 46.2 million.

7) Health Care: Average family health insurance premiums have increased by more than $1,500.

8. Energy: Gas prices have doubled -- and are currently rising at an alarming rate.

9) Housing: Foreclosures have spiked to a record one-million-plus annually.

10) Debt: Each family’s share of the publicly-held national debt has skyrocketed by more than $35,000, to nearly $90,000.

Think about each one of these facts.
These, pass this list along to friends, neighbors, colleagues and others.
because we all deserve to know the facts before we vote.

Governor Jan Brewer Endorses Mitt Romney!

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has decided to endorse Mitt Romney for President in advance of her state's primary election on Tuesday.
Brewer held out for quite awhile. She said she wanted to look at all the candidates very carefully. Brewer did that and now she's backing Romney.
Brewer says the key factor is Romney's astute business background.
“I think he’d serve Americans the best of all the candidates,” Brewer said just a few moments ago on NBC's Meet The Press.
This is a big "get" for Mitt Romney and gives him added momentum going into Thursday's key primaries in Arizona and Michigan.
Brewer is widely admired as a tough, non-nonsense, fearless leader who not only very popular in her home state but who has also gained national attention for her strong stands on a variety of issues.

In 2012, We Must Ask Ourselves: 'Are We Better Off?'

A friend writes as follows:
Are we better off than when the new CEO we elected took office?
No blaming the guy who came before him. No blaming those pesky people who seem to have a different philosophy. Take the labels away.
Are we better off?
I speak to lot of business owners who are just hanging on. Many of them are skipping paychecks so they can pay their employees and even with that, they've had to cut the employee salaries.
Are we better off?
We hired a new guy in 2008 to fix what we thought was wrong and are we better off?
Yeah, I know Bin Laden is dead and Obama took credit - so let's not go there. Is this country better off? Yes or No?
And on one of the paramount issues of the day, this friend adds:
I'm not sure when birth control became a woman's right.
At one time I thought abortion was OK. And then one day I heard the staggering number of lives that had been ended through abortion. I actually cried. I couldn't stop thinking about the teachers, artists and just plain great human beings we had killed in the name of women's rights. Who knows, maybe we ended the life of the person who could actually find a cure for breast cancer.
Obama actually fought for ending the life of a baby that had survived an abortion. He said in an interview that his daughters should not have to pay for the rest of their lives for "a mistake."
I just heard a woman talk about reproductive justice - I asked her for whom - she changed the subject.
I was extremely liberal when I graduated college in the 60s. Then I realized what extreme liberalism was doing to this country. I'm not an extreme anything anymore. Kind of in the middle but I wonder why people can't see through the rhetoric that comes out of politician's mouths.
We need stop listening to pretty words and actually look at what they do. Regarding our "right" to contraceptives, one politician said "it saves lives." Really? Well, dental floss saves more lives. It's a proven medical fact that flossing every day prevents plaque build up in the arteries. I floss every day. I should be entitled to free dental floss if it's all about saving lives and a healthier America.

Video: Man Falls Asleep During Rambling Biden Rant

Vice-President "Regular Guy" (aka Joe Biden) recently spoke of Americans "tired of being tired."
We weren't quite sure what hapless, gaff-prone Joe meant by that until we saw this video clip of a man literally struggling to stay awake while Biden spoke at North Carolina Community College.
Look at the man on the left just behind Biden.
He's so bored he can't even keep his eyes open.
These are the scenes that the Dominant media and the major networks never show you because they're too busy trying to prop up a failed Obama Administration.
"Tired of being tired?"
They're tired of listening to you, Joe -- you rambling, old gasbag!

Breathtaking Renoirs Together At The Frick

The Frick Collection in Manhattan is synonymous with great art. Degas, El Greco, Gainsborough, Rembrandt, Manet, Monet, Stuart, Van Dyck, Vermeer and Whistler -- all can be found in The Frick's permanent collection.
But now, The Frick has mounted one of the grandest shows of all: Nine big, dazzling, priceless Renoirs all together, side-by-side in one room. This is the first comprehensive study of Renoir's engagement with the full-length format from the decade that saw the emergence of a fully fledged impressionistic aesthetic.
Today we had the opportunity to view these paintings assembled from all over the world and we can tell you that this show is an absolute "must see."
On view only at the Frick, Renoir, Impressionism, and Full-Length Painting is a landmark exhibition, bringing together beloved masterpieces. Works on loan from international institutions are La Parisienne (1874) from the National Museum Wales, Cardiff; The Umbrellas (c. 1881 and 1885) from The National Gallery, London (first time on view in the United States since 1886); and Dance in the City and Dance in the Country (1882–83) from the Musée d'Orsay, Paris. Works on loan from American institutions are The Dancer (1874) from the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; Madame Henriot "en travesti" (1875–76) from the Columbus Museum of Art; Acrobats at the Cirque Fernando (1879) from The Art Institute of Chicago; and Dance at Bougival (1882–83) from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The exhibition is shown in the Frick's East Gallery. Renoir, Impressionism, and Full-Length Painting was organized by Colin B. Bailey, the Frick's Deputy Director and Peter Jay Sharp Chief Curator.
The exhibition was inspired by La Promenade of 1875–76, the most significant Impressionist work in the Frick's permanent collection. It explores Renoir's portraits and subject pictures of this type from the mid-1870s to mid-1880s. Intended for public display, these vertical grand-scale canvases are among the artist's most daring and ambitious presentations of contemporary subjects.
The juxtaposition of these full-length images of women brings the glamour of the Belle Époque vividly to life. This format, which bears striking similarities to contemporary fashion plates, afforded Renoir the perfect opportunity to devote himself not only to women of the period, but to the finest details of their dress.
From shimmering ball gowns to sumptuous furs, from chic Parisian day dresses to glamorous theatrical costumes, the nine paintings capture the fashions of Renoir's Paris.
Of course, we've long been fans of Renoir and of most things Impressionistic. But this assemblage takes one's breath away. And with good reason, people are coming from far and near to bask in the rich, vivid glow of these lush Renoirs.
The show runs through May 13 only.

Review: Hugo Dazzles, Mesmerizes, Beguiles

Magical.
That's the only word on can use to describe the new Martin Scorsese film Hugo.
Hugo is Scorcese's $160 million visual delight. It's his first film in 3-D. It's his first "family" film. And, it's been nominated for more Academy Awards than any other film this year.
I'm here to tell you that it has truly earned every award it's been nominated for -- and then some,
Hugo is a feast for the eyes, ears, the imagination and the senses. And don't be put off by the "family film" designation. This is a movie filled with childhood wonder and touched by adult sensibility and poignancy. It spans all generations. It's Scorsese's gift to everyone and it's also his homage to the movies.
Written by John Logan and based on the book by Brian Selznick, Hugo is the story of an orphan boy living in the walls of a train station in the 1930s in Paris. The boy fixes clocks and other gadgets -- a craft he learned to from his father and uncle. But both his father and uncle are gone and the only thing that he has left that connects him to his father is an automaton that doesn't work. Therein lies the mystery that propels the story: Hugo has to find the automaton's heart-shaped key.
On his adventures, Hugo meets with a cranky old man who works in the train station and his adventure-seeking god-daughter. Hugo finds that they have a surprising connection to his father and the automaton, and as he discovers it, the old man starts remembering his past and his significance to the world of film-making. This is where the movies comes into play.
The 3-D in this movie is absolutely seamless and stunning. The characters are vivid and wonderfully memorable. The story is irresistible. And, it's actually rooted in a kernel of truth.
Along with another one of this year's Best Picture nominees (Midnight In Paris) this movie will make you want to run away to Paris and never return.
Along with a third nominee (The Artrist) this film will make you nostalgic for the early days of the movies when directors played dazzling visual tricks on the audience; when life was more innocent and audiences were more willing to suspend disbelief; when actors didn't need to speak to convey meaning and emotion.
If you don't see Hugo you will be missing one of Scorsese's best and one of the most beguiling films you will ever see.
Round up friends, neighbors -- the whole family -- and rush to see Hugo.
You're gonna love it!

Video: Santorum And The Spectre Of Specter

He supported liberal Arlen Specter -- twice!
He trusted Republican turncoat Arlen Specter again and again.
He praised Specter and proudly embraced him.
He even voted with Specter for a liberal Supreme Court nominee who now sits on the high court.
And he refused to stand up to Big Labor -- just like Specter.
Now, he's haunted by the spectre of Specter. And he has no one to blame but himself.

Poll: Romney gets Big Boost From GOP Debate

The latest Rasmussen Reports poll of likely Republican Primary voters in Michigan shows Romney with 40% of the vote and former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum with 34%. The poll was conducted on Thursday night, following the last scheduled debate among the GOP candidates.
This is a dramatic reversal from pre-debate polls that showed Romney faltering.
But Mitt's appears to have his mojo back.

On Energy, Fuel: What Goes Around Comes Around

From a superb Wall Street Journal editorial:
We'd almost feel sorry for Mr. Obama's gas-price predicament if it weren't a case of rough justice. The President has deliberately sought to raise the price of energy throughout the economy via his cap-and-trade agenda. He is now getting his wish, albeit a little too overtly for political comfort. Mr. Obama has also spent three years blaming George W. Bush for every economic ill. If Mr. Obama now feels frustrated by economic events beyond his control, perhaps he should call Mr. Bush for consolation.

Conservatives: Don't Let The Naysayers Intimidate You

It happens every year -- especially as November's elections near.
And it's always worse during a presidential election year.
The liberals whine and complain -- and often they complain about us (those of us who call ourselves "conservative") and our views and what they see as our "stridency."
And so it's happening again.
The people who are expressing their disappointment with our views have pretty much always expressed such disappointment. And, many of them have a habit of dismissing those who hold such views (or similar views) as being narrow minded or not "thoughtful."
But, speaking only for myself the record will show that (as usual) I am supporting the most moderate candidate in the GOP race and my steadfast support of Governor Chris Christie (and before him, Governor Christie Whitman) shows that I am hardly on the fringe or unreasonable.
Both of these fine GOP governors managed to gain the confidence of the people in a Very Blue state. And yes, the ones who dismiss our views also called Ronald Reagan wacky and "out of the mainstream". And they said he was "Scary and dangerous" and painted him as an "ideologue." And they dismissed him as an ":amiable dunce."
This is what they do. They were wrong then and they are wrong now.
I'm proud to have supported Ronald Reagan who turned out to be the best president in my lifetime and a true American hero.
And I'm proud to be supporting Mitt Romney as well -- a decent, responsible, exceptionally competent, inspiring leader.
And yes, I will continue to speak out to advance the conservative agenda -- as I have a right to hold and advance such views.
So long as I can still exercise such rights, I will!
And I urge you to do the same.

GOP Candidates Scary? No! Here's What's Scary . . .

Some friends of mine have been telling me that they find the Republican presidential candidates "Scary."
"Ohhhh . . . they're so scray. They're downright frightening!" That's what they're saying.
Well, here in the northeast that's often the prevailing mentality among self-appointed elites.
They've become so comfortable in their misguided beliefs (and, in their mind, so enlightened) that anything that doesn't fit their liberal/secular/abidingly permissive world view is simply "horrifying."
But the GOP candidates are not nearly as scary as what I see.
Here's what's really scary:
Three years of an economy with more than 13 million unemployed, a growth rate gasping around 2%, an historic credit downgrade and record underwater home mortgages. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Historic high fuel prices, creeping inflation, real income sliding downward, record bankruptcies.
These are the facts -- just a FEW of them. OK?
I'm quite alert to what's happening but fear that many of my friends are in an Obama-induced stupor. I want to shake them and scream: "Wake up!"

Gallup Poll: Grim For Obama; Good For Romney

The latest Gallup?USA Today poll holds grim news for the White House. While 44 percent of Americans says President Obama’s time in office has been a success, 50 percent say it’s been a failure. Not good for the president.
In fact, that’s lower than every presidential nominee in the last five contests save for Bob Dole. And Dole lost.
And the Gallup poll also shows Romney now running ahead of Obama by 50% to 44%. It's quite impressive that Romney has already reached the 50% mark while the incumbent president can't seem to reach that critical approval level.

Fewer And Fewer People Paying Income Taxes

As April 15 approaches new figures about paying income taxes have emerged and they're not good.
It's come to this: Under President Obama, half the people in American pay NO federal income taxes.
This is a startling figure.
But it's true: In 2009, just 50.5 per cent of Americans paid any income tax to the federal government - the lowest proportion in at least half a century.
What this means is that the "takers" are about to outnumber the "makers." Put another way, it shows us that productive people (working stiffs) are paying the taxes for the rest -- non-productive people and/or those who are avoiding income taxes for one reason or another.
An astounding 151.7million U.S. citizens paid no federal income tax in 2009, according to figures compiled by the Heritage Foundation.
In 1984, the middle of the Reagan era, 85 per cent of Americans paid federal income tax, meaning just 34.8million people did not.
Here's the bottom line: fewer people are putting money into the pot while many, many more people are taking money out of the pot.
Not good. Not good at all!

Is There A Romney/Paul Alliance? Santorum Gripes.

Is there a Romney/Paul alliance?
Ron Paul has already discussed this on the Scott Hennen radio show (above) and in news stories.
We've discussed it here as well.
The two men like and respect one another. And their families are friendly as well. They talk frequently and they share the same values. They're both strong family men and neither one is by nature accusatory or confrontational.
Well, anyway -- all this seems to irk Rick Santorum.
Santorum and his camp are now complaining that they're being ganged up on. They're suggesting that there's some collusion between Paul and Romney.
The whole notion is absurd, as the Romney camp has correctly pointed out.
Let's face it: Rick Santorum had a very, very bad night last night. He bombed. And now he's trying to find a scapegoat.
As Romney told Santorum during the debate last night: "Look in the mirror."
Santorum's the one who voted again and again to raise the debt lmit.
Santorum's the one who supposted countless earmarks.
Santorum's the one who cozied up to "Benedict Arnold" Specter.
Santorum's the one who argued that mainline Protestantism was falling prey to Satan.
Those were Santorum's words and actions. And he has no one to blame but himself for the fallout.

Video: Romney Explains His Economic Plan

We doubt you'll find a better, clearer explanation than this.

Video: Christie Defines 'The American Dream'

A strong work-ethic. Belief in what you do. Passion, The willingness to dream big dreams and work like hell to make them happen. The elements of the opportunity society that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie continues to champion.

The War On Religious Liberty Must End!

From Phyllis Schlafley:
Welcome to the real ObamaCare, whereby a handful of leftists in D.C. impose the views of their big-money donors on more than 300 million Americans. If the Obama mandate for contraception remains intact, then liberals will next demand that Americans pay for other objectionable items that are not really medical care.
We can expect future mandates, under the guise of "health care," to include sex-change operations, late-term abortions, embryonic stem-cell use, and a variety of other procedures that many Americans do not support and certainly do not want to be compelled to foot the bill for. Obama’s mandate for abortifacient drugs opens a slippery slope that would erode the moral authority of religious institutions in America.
Obama and the liberals have overplayed their hand. By baring their teeth, these lackeys for the Left have awakened Democratic voters to the real contempt that liberals hold for religious values.

Lautenberg Jumps Into Rutgers/Rowan Controversy

As many of you know, we're not big fans of crusty old US Senator Frank Lautenberg.
He too liberal, He too cantankerous. And he's been wielding power in the Garden State for way too long.
But we'd be remiss if we did not report a significant development: Frank Lautenberg wants answers -- and he wants them now -- about the details of the plan endorsed by Governor Chris Christie and others to have Rowan University essentially take over Rutgers Camden.
Now, we've already said that we believe this plan needs a truly thorough airing.
What's happening now is that Lautenberg is signaling serious skepticism, to say the least.
In a letter to Governor Christie he says he wants to know more about the details of the controversial merger including how it will impact Rutgers Camden employees, student tuition, federal funding, services and other matters.
"Many concerned New Jerseyans have raised questions about the specifics of the plan and your endorsement of it," Lautenberg wrote. The Senator says he wants "evidence, data or analysis" that would support arguments made by the plan's proponents.
We know that Governor Christie believes in this plan. He's made that clear and experience has shown we'd be foolish not to take him at his word.
But it appears as if this may not be a fight for the short-winded.
So, the days ahead may give us evidence of how much Chris Christie believes in this merger and/or just how much time, energy and political capital he's willing spend to make it a done deal.
It ain't gonna be easy.

Christie to Buffet: "Write a check and shut up."

This is Chris Christie at his best. Frank. Honest. Real.

Video: Classic Christie - Don't Send Gov't Your Money!

Note how the entrenched Democrats in New Jersey's State Legislature (and former Democrat Governor Jim Florio) sit stoned-faced today during the Governor's Budget Address and refuse to applaud as Governor Chris Christie tells legislators to stop playing games with taxpayers' hard-earned dollars.
Here's what the Governor said:
Now, some in this chamber may want to return to the days of outrageous state spending growth. To gimmicky programs that take money out of the taxpayers right pocket, and have Trenton keep most of it. Then return far less of it in their left pocket, take a bow and call it tax relief.
Now, New Jersey has seen 30 years of this as Trenton's solution to fix property taxes. It never has fixed a problem and it never will fix the problem. And New Jerseyans will not fall for the same old Trenton politicians' trick again.
We know that the only way to ensure that Trenton politicians will not waste your money is to not send it to them in the first place.

Uhhhh Ohhhh . . . Unemployment UP, Again!

Unemployment in the U.S. rose to nine percent in mid-February, up from 8.3 percent a month earlier, according to a new Gallup survey. This is not a good sign.
Gallup figures often provide an indication of what the government will report at the end of the month.
Gallup said the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) would probably report a rise in the official unemployment rate in early March, when it publishes its February figures.

Santorum Warned That 'Satan' Is Out To Destroy US

The Drudge Report is out today with a troubling report about Rick Santorumj.
It seems the former senator from Pennsylvania warned in 2008 how politics and government are falling to Satan.
Here's an excerpt from the report:
"Satan has his sights on the United States of America!" Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum has declared.
"Satan is attacking the great institutions of America, using those great vices of pride, vanity, and sensuality as the root to attack all of the strong plants that has so deeply rooted in the American tradition."

On Presidents Day - The 10 Greatest Presidents

It's Presidents Day so this is a good time to give you our very own personal ranking of the Top Ten Presidents of all time. Some of these names are practically de rigeur. You see them on almost every such list. But some of these will surprise you. Here they are:

1) Abraham Lincoln - He not only saved the union but he remains the single most compelling figure in American history.

2) George Washington - His very name defines virtue. He remains our inspiration and our touchstone. Literally, he was honest, courageous and true.

3) Ronald Reagan - The greatest president in my lifetime and a towering figure of the 20th century. He gave us hope and presided over the end of the end of Soviet communism and the rebirth of the American Dream.

4) Harry Truman - The straight-talking man from Missouri whose old-fashioned common sense and quiet strength grounded in simple American values led us through a perilous time and into the second half of the American century.

5) Franklin D. Roosevelt - More for winning the war than anything else, he defined the bigger-than-life, charismatic leader of the media age. A consummate politician, he seemed to empower the presidency through sheer force of will.

6) Dwight Eisenhower - Peace and prosperity. Those were his hallmarks. But he was also a superb manager. strong leader and astute navigator who led us through the Cold War with conviction and nerves of steel.

7) Theodore Roosevelt - If conservationism was his sole accomplishment that alone would warrant inclusion in this list. He established numerous national parks to preserve the wildlife that was quickly being overtaken through industrialization and he wasn't afraid to take on powerful special interests.

8) Calvin Coolidge - Silent Cal understood that the business of America is business. Coolidge restored public confidence in the White House after the scandals of his predecessor's administration, and left office with considerable popularity. He embodied the hopes and dreams of the middle class and he knew how to cut government down to size and unleash boom times.

9) James K. Polk - Often considered the best one-term president ever, Polk increased the size of the United States more than any other president through the acquisition of California and New Mexico as a result of the Mexican-American War. He also claimed Oregon Territory after a treaty with England. He was a key figure in Manifest Destiny.

10) I've deliberately left this slot open. Now, you tell us who should be on the list. Your suggestions invited.

Catholicism Series Goes To US Armed Forces

On this Presidents' Day, Word on Fire Catholic Ministries is excited to announce the donation of 452 CATHOLICISM DVD sets, study materials and prayer cards to the U.S. Armed Forces in time for use during Lent. With the help of the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA, the materials will be made available to military priests, chaplains and lay leaders to assist in ministering to servicemen and women stationed domestically, in the far-flung reaches of the globe, and in the care of V.A. medical centers.

“The CATHOLICISM series provides an effective opportunity to engage active duty young adults in the Catholic faith,” said Mark Moitoza, the Vice Chancellor for Evangelization at the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA. “We estimate that there are about 300,000 Catholic young adults in the military, and our archdiocese recently has been making a concerted effort to reach out to these young men and women serving our country."

The donation is important for a number of reasons: notably to catechize an underserved population of Catholics, to ensure CATHOLICISM has a truly global reach, and to be a humble gesture of thanks to the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedom.

"Catholicism is not just a documentary about the Church, but a means of instilling faith, hope, and love, especially for those, like the members of the military, who might be separated from loved ones or find themselves immersed in the most difficult of circumstances,” said series host and creator Father Barron. “It is my hope that this gift will serve as a sign of the Church's comfort and care for all the men and women who serve their country."

Podcast With Sean Patrick Griffin - 'Gaming The Game'

In June 2007, the FBI informed the NBA that one of its referees, Tim Donaghy, was the subject of a probe into illegal gambling. Within months, the public knew the broad outlines of a scheme involving Donaghy betting on games he officiated with a co-conspirator, longtime Donaghy acquaintance and professional gambler Jimmy Baba Battista.
They were joined in the scandal by a mutual childhood friend, Tommy Martino. By November 2008, each man had pleaded guilty to charges relating to the conspiracy, and was in federal prison. The story was over. Or so it seemed to be.
Researched with dozens of interviews, court documents, betting records, referee statistics, and unique access to witness statements and confidential law enforcement files, the new book GAMING THE GAME  by Sean Patrick Griffin (pictured) looks inside the FBI’s investigation and beyond to provide the definitive account of the scandal.
Jimmy Battista’s remarkable decades-long bookmaking and betting career is examined, including and especially his role as architect of the widely publicized scandal. Battista, who – unlike his co-conspirators – never spoke with federal authorities, reveals for the first time the intricate details of the scheme, most of which only he knows.
I'm proud to say that Sean Patrick Griffin is a colleague of mine at Penn State Abington where he is an Associate Professor in Criminal Justice.
Recently I had the chance to interview Dr. Griffin and discuss his new book with him.
