NJ Adds 12,400 Jobs In January – Nearly 181,000 Private Sector Jobs Created Under Gov Christie
At 6.3% Unemployment Rate Remains Vastly Lower Than High Of Nearly 10% In Jan. 2010
BENCHMARKED JOB'S: SURGE OF 12,400 JOBS CREATED IN JANUARY BRINGS GOV CHRISTIE’S PRIVATE SECTOR JOB CREATION TO NEARLY 181,000
New jobs numbers are out this morning from the Labor Department showing a surge in January job creation, and continuing the long-term trend under Gov Christie of an unemployment rate that has steadily fallen from a high of nearly 10% since he took office and consistent private sector job creation.
12,400 total jobs were added in January, bringing the total number of private sector jobs created under the Christie Administration to nearly 181,000.
Here are other highlights from the numbers:
· Since February 2010, the first full month of the Christie Administration, private sector employment has increased by 180,800 jobs
· 11,800 of the 12,400 jobs added in January were in the private sector
· New Jersey has seen private sector job growth in five consecutive years – every single year of Governor Christie’s time in office
· At 6.3 percent, the unemployment rate remains at its lowest level since October 2008
· New Jersey’s unemployment rate has dropped 3.4 points from the recessionary peak of 9.7 in January 2010
· At the same time, New Jersey’s labor force participation rate – the number of people actively in the work force – remains higher than the national average
