“If an individual in New Jersey would like to purchase a used car from a private party, that individual should be afforded the same benefits he or she would receive from a dealer if they were buying a new car,” said Corrado (R-40). “Currently, New Jersey’s e-titling system does not include used vehicle sales documents or private motor vehicle sales documents. My legislation would make the used car buying process far more efficient and enjoyable by requiring the MVC to incorporate used vehicle sales documents into an electronic transaction system.”
Corrado’s bill, S-2736, would require the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission to implement an electronic transaction system for used motor vehicles. Current law already requires the MVC to implement this system, but for new vehicle transactions only.
The legislation would also authorize the MVC to use the same electronic transaction system for private motor vehicle sales and transaction documents.
“During the pandemic, when motor vehicle locations were constantly closing, people who purchased a used vehicle privately could wait days or even weeks to drive that vehicle home,” added Corrado. “This common-sense legislation will benefit all New Jerseyans and make purchasing a used vehicle a less stressful experience.”
