Brown should have stepped down from public office -- and stayed out of public office -- decades ago.
Brown, who was elected Governor of California 35 years ago (and who served for two terms) is trying to get back into the Governor's office.
But he's in a messy campaign and he's losing.
Now Brown has had to apologize to President Clinton.
According to the Associated Press, here's what Brown said at a recent campaign stop: "Clinton's a nice guy, but who ever said he always told the truth? You remember, right? There's that whole story there about did he or didn't he."
Apparently, Brown was referring to the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal and Clinton's famous assertion that "I did not have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky."
Clinton and Brown have not exactly been the best of friends since 1992 when Brown ran for president in the Democrat primaries against Clinton. Earlier this year, Clinton endorsed Brown's primary opponent in the California Governor's race.
This is the sort of thing that happens when people simply don't know when to get off the stage.
They get old, testy, tired, easily distracted and irrelevant.
It time for Jerry Brown to move on. Make haste, Jerry . . .
