Yesterday, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was appointed to the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations (ACTPN) by President Barack Obama.
“It is an honor to be named by the President to the Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations,” said Governor Christie. “New Jersey in many ways is considered the gateway to international trade. As a member of the Advisory Committee, I look forward to sharing New Jersey’s experiences while working to ensure that national policies enhance and improve trade opportunities for New Jersey and throughout the country.”
Administered by the U.S. Trade Representative, Ambassador Ron Kirk, the Advisory Committee provides policy advice on trade issues of overall national interest. Committee members, who represent a broad array of economic sectors impacted by trade, serve two-year terms.
The private sector advisory committee system was created by Congress in 1974 and expanded under the Trade Act of 2002 to ensure that U.S. trade policy and trade negotiation objectives reflect U.S. commercial and economic interests. The three-tiered system is represented by the President's Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and Negotiations (ACTPN); four policy advisory committees; and 22 technical and sectoral advisory committees.
