The Corbett-Cawley campaign today released the following statement from Governor Tom Corbett regarding President Barack Obama’s visit to Pittsburgh. This is the President’s third visit to Pennsylvania this year.
“As President Barack Obama visits Pennsylvania for the third time in six months, I urge him to take notice of all the great things we are doing to make our Commonwealth stronger. Pennsylvania is on the move again and our economy is improving under my administration’s ‘Less Taxes, More Jobs’ agenda. Washington, D.C. can learn from Pennsylvania, where we have controlled government spending, reduced taxes and have seen our unemployment move well-below the national average.
“When Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley and I were elected, our unemployment rate was at 8.2 percent and we faced a $4.2 billion deficit, but we eliminated that deficit and helped create private sector jobs, all without raising taxes. As a result of these tough choices, Pennsylvania has created over 150,000 new private sector jobs and our state’s unemployment is now at 5.7 percent -- the lowest level since September 2008.
“Our state’s economy continues to improve, and I am pleased that President Obama continues to recognize the stronger Pennsylvania that has been built over the past three and a half years.”
Corbett-Cawley Communications Director Chris Pack added, “President Obama’s visit gives Secretary Tom Wolf a golden opportunity to repudiate President Obama’s job-killing War on Coal and drop his support for the President’s disastrous Obamacare law.
“Despite these roadblocks set up by tone-deaf Washington bureaucrats, Governor Corbett’s ‘Less Taxes, More Jobs’ agenda has created over 150,000 new private sector job and has led to Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate dropping to a five-year low.
“Secretary Tom Wolf wants to go back to the tax-and-spend culture in Harrisburg that killed jobs and increased taxes. We already know how that story ends, and Pennsylvania cannot afford to go back to the days of more taxes and less jobs, because that just weakens Pennsylvania.”
