Christie Announces $15 Million In FEMA Grants

The Christie Administration announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded over $15 million in federal grants to Middlesex County, Monmouth County Public Works, Monmouth County, Seaside Heights, Woodbridge Township, and Point Pleasant Beach for Sandy-related emergency costs.

In Middlesex County, the federal funds will be used to repair Old Bridge Waterfront Park’s boardwalk. Monmouth County will receive federal funding to reimburse the Sheriff's Department, which supplied security at shelters, performed search and rescue and manned 9-1-1 call centers. The Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering will receive funds for emergency protective measures to pump out reservoirs, clear blocked roads, set up evacuation routes, detours, and block hazardous areas to prevent dangers to the public. In Seaside Heights, funding will be used to reimburse cost associated with citizen rescues, sheltering operation, and around the clock police protection of resident's homes and businesses. The Township of Woodbridge will be reimbursed for contractors to load, haul, and dispose of approximately 22,000 cubic yards of debris. Point Pleasant Beach will use funds to repair the Point Pleasant Beach Borough Boardwalk, which consists of a 5,050 foot long, 16ft wide boardwalk and was damaged in five locations.

The recipients, total project costs and FEMA grant amounts are as follows:

· Middlesex County - The total cost of the project is $1.67 million. FEMA’s share of the cost is $1.25 million

· Monmouth County - The total cost of the project is $1.7 million. FEMA’s share of the cost is $1.29 million

· Monmouth County Department of Public Works and Engineering - The total cost of the project is $4.95 million. FEMA’s share of the cost is $3.7 million

· Seaside Heights (Ocean) - The total cost of the project is $1.85 million. FEMA’s share of the cost is $1.39 million

· Woodbridge Township (Middlesex) - The total cost of the project is $2.3 million. FEMA’s share of the cost is $1.7 million

· Point Pleasant Beach (Ocean) - The total cost of the project is $2.8 million. FEMA’s share of the cost is $2.1 million

Public Assistance reimburses local and county governments and certain nonprofit organizations for eligible disaster-related costs including emergency protective measures, debris removal and public infrastructure repair or replacement costs.

He served as Chair of Penn State University's Professional Advisory Board for the Corporate Communication major at Penn State Abington and on the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Judicial Selection Commission.

He received his MA degree from Rowan University and his BA from Villanova University. He has been named a Distinguished Alumnus of Rowan's public relations program and received the E. A. "Wally" Richter Leadership Award, the highest honor from the National Association of Bar Executives' Communications Section. He has also been honored by numerous other local, state and national groups.

In his hometown of Camden, Cirucci taught fifth grade at the Ulysses Wiggins Elementary School named for the founder of the Camden NAACP. There he was one of the first teachers in the country to teach African-American history to inner city students. He later served as editor of a local weekly newspaper, as Assistant to the Township Manager of Cherry Hill Township and as Associate Director of Communications at the New Jersey State Bar Association.

Cirucci's passions include all things Italian, politics, the popular culture, books and authors, art, communication, music, theatre, movies, dining and travel.

He and his wife Carole have two grown children and seven grandchildren.
