Trump Delivers Strong Economic Message To Franchisees

Yesterday, President Donald J. Trump delivered remarks at the McDonald’s Impact Summit — where he laid out the progress that has been made in undoing the economic devastation of the Biden era and charted a path forward to make sure all Americans realize prosperity and opportunity.
Here’s what you missed:
  • “I’m honored to stand before you as the very first former McDonald’s fry cook ever to become President of the United States.” (Watch)

  • “My pledge to every family and every small business is that I will not rest until you are richer, stronger, more successful, happier, until you’ve gotten a piece of the American Dream... That begins with making America affordable.” (Watch)

  • “There’s still a lot of work to do — and we’re making tremendous progress. 1.9 million more American-born workers are employed today than when I took office... Wages for hourly workers are rising at the fastest pace in 60 years.” (Watch)

  • “I’m fighting every day to support small businesses like yours and the citizens that we all serve — and together, we’re fighting for an economy where everyone can win, from the cashier starting her first job, to the franchisee opening his first location, to the young family in a drive-thru line.” (Watch)

  • “The Biden Administration started the affordability crisis — and my Administration is ending it… In the past six months, the price of breakfast items has fallen 14%, bread prices are down, dairy prices are down; the price of eggs has declined 86% since March.” (Watch)

  • “While Democrats wanted to give Americans the largest tax hike in history, in July, I proudly gave you the largest tax cuts in American history and signed the One Big Beautiful Bill into law. That includes No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, and No Tax on Social Security for our great seniors. That is a big deal.” (Watch)

  • “We slashed more than $1 trillion worth of regulations, burdens on the U.S. economy — in particular, on businesses and people that employ people. Combining our regulatory and tax cuts, we’ve reduced the effective burden on franchisees by more than 37%.” (Watch)

  • “In my first term, I also stopped a mortal threat to the franchise business model by terminating Obama’s infamous ‘joint employer rule…’ As long as I’m President, I’ll always defend your right to run your own small businesses, and do it well.” (Watch)

  • “As you may have heard, I’m also one of your all-time most loyal customers... While other politicians fly around on campaign planes stocked with expensive catering, on Trump Force One… we serve only McDonald’s almost every time.” (Watch)

Roy Rogers Returns To South Jersey, Big Time!

It took several decades (at least) but Roy Rogers (complete with burgers, fries, roast beef, fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits and that famous Fixins Bar) is back. And here in South Jersey, Cherry Hill's got 'im!

So, yeah -- you can dress your burger just the way you like it with all the fresh lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, etc. that you want. And you can refill your drinks as much as you want and do it all at a very economical price. And don't forget the ice cream, shakes, brownies and strawberry shortcake.  We stopped at Roy's today and the food is every bit as good as we remember it -- actually even better!

Hey, Americans love a comeback and Roy is back Big Time. So, it's no wonder the place is packed with parents and grandparents who remember Roy's and now have their kids and grandkids in tow. Howdy, pardner! Welcome back!

Bobby Moves To Phase Out Harmful Food Dyes!

Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F.  (Bobby) Kennedy, Jr. today announced his department and the FDA will soon phase out harmful petroleum based food dyes from the American diet. In their place, the FDA plans to authorize four natural color alternatives within the next few weeks and accelerate the review of others. This is all part of President Trump's make Amertica Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative.

Here are the eight  harmful food dyes RFK Jr. and the FDA are planning on phasing out:

  • Blue No. 1: Also known as Brilliant Blue FCF, Blue No. 1 is derived from petroleum to give foods such as M&M’s and Takis a blue hue.
  • Blue No. 2: Also known as indigo carmine or indigotine, Blue No. 2 mimics the color and properties of plant-based indigo dye in products like Skittles and blueberry Pop-Tarts.
  • Citrus Red No. 2:  It’s used to color the peels of oranges, particularly those grown in Florida, that are not intended for processing.
  • Green No. 3: The artificial green dye, called Fast Green FCF, is produced through chemical synthesis.
  • Orange B: The color additive is only permitted for use in hot dog and sausage casings. In high doses, it can damage the liver and bile duct.
  • Red dye 40: Also known as Allura Red AC, Red dye 40 gives red color to products like Kool-Aid, Starburst and NyQuil.
  • Yellow No. 5: Commonly known as tartrazine, Yellow No. 5 can be found in brightly colored sodas like Mountain Dew and processed snacks like Twinkies.
  • Yellow No. 6: Sunset Yellow FCF, imparts a vibrant yellow-orange hue to Airheads, Jolly Ranchers, Lucky Charms and other processed foods.

Roy Rogers Cherry Hill: A Return To South Jersey!

Roy Rogers will be opening a new location on Haddonfield Road in Cherry Hill at the former PDQ Chicken storefront. PDQ closed just over a year ago.

The opening is planned for Spring 2025 and marks the chain's 'exciting return to the Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia markets since the 1980s.'
"We could not be happier to bring our USDA choice top round roast beef, juicy burgers and fresh, hand-breaded fried chicken back to Cherry Hill,” says Co-President of Roy Rogers Restaurants, Jim Plamondon. "Roy’s legacy fans will be thrilled to see the iconic Fixin’s Bar® and use our signature sauces to customize their favorite sandwiches and tenders. New guests will be pleased with our diverse menu and quality beef, burgers and chicken you can’t find anywhere else.”
The remodeled storefront will feature the brand’s signature wood and black iron accents with a clean, warm, honest, and natural look. In addition to design upgrades, the restaurant will include advanced technology, including new electronic menu boards, ordering kiosks and digital drive-thru menu boards for an elevated guest experience.

Italian American Heritage Month: Jim Delligatti

Jim Delligatti

He's not as well known as some of the other Italian Americans we've been spotlighting this month but he's still quite significant.
Michael James Delligatti's father’s job forced the family to move frequently. He never went to college and started his career working at a chain of family-owned dairies and restaurants in the 1950s. By the mid-50s, Delligatti wanted to open his own restaurant and attended a restaurant show where he got the idea to open one of the first McDonald’s franchises.
By the 1960s, he was operating a dozen stores in the Pittsburgh area. Delligatti had an exclusive territorial franchise for metropolitan Pittsburgh but was struggling with sub-par store volumes. He decided that the only way to broaden his customer base and increase sales was to add to the McDonald’s menu.
For the next few years, Jim Delligatti spent his time and energy creating a new product for the McDonald’s menu. His eventual idea? Two-all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions on a sesame seed bun. Jim Delligatti invented the Big Mac! Original names for the burger included “Aristocrat” and “Blue Ribbon Burger.” Finally, the company settled on the name Big Mac which was suggested by an advertising executive.
One of Delligatti’s obstacles in getting the Big Mac approved for sale was its proposed price of 45 cents—twice that of a regular cheeseburger. But the product was such a hit that the price concern no longer mattered. The rest is history!

Part of a month long series spotlighting a different accomplished Italian American every day during Italian American Heritage Month.
