Philly Area College Third-In-Nation For Value!

Villanova University has been ranked third in the nation for economic value by The Economist. 

In the publication’s first-ever college ranking, The Economist measured the economic value of a university based upon the gap between how much money its graduates earn, and how much they might have made had they studied elsewhere. The Economist stated that its rankings estimate “which schools realistically boost graduates' salaries.”

The Economist published an interactive list, as well as a story about the rankings – which highlighted Villanova’s performance.

The Economist’s analysis included a median graduate salary that its model predicted for each of the 1,308 colleges. The publication then compared the actual earnings of a college’s graduates against this benchmark and ranked institutions based upon the over-under performance. The rankings are based upon the salaries of graduates 10 years after entering college.

Added Maggitti: “Villanova students are sought after because they are creative problem solvers who graduate with the leadership, communication and interpersonal skills that employers are looking for across the spectrum of job sectors. The many opportunities students have to work across colleges and disciplines at Villanova also makes them well prepared for the work environments they will experience when they leave.”

In addition to Villanova’s No. 3 ranking for earnings above expectation (+$13,245), the University also ranked 21st in the country for median earnings ($73,700). Villanova student outcomes can also be highlighted by the job placement and earnings of recent graduates. Nearly 99 percent of Villanova’s 2014 graduates were employed or had been accepted into graduate school within six months of graduation. The average starting salary for 2014 graduates was $54,345.
