All of these first African-American congressmen were REPUBLICANS. Abraham Lincoln was a REPUBLICAN. All along, it was the REPUBLICAN Party that fought for equality and justice. Republicans provided the votes to bring about the legislation that protected equal access, equal employment opportunity, voting rights, etc.
