'Rich' Man, 'Poor' Man

"Friend of Working People" - Obama vacation site in Hawaii.

"Friend of the Rich" - Bush vacation site in Texas.
Pictures don't lie. While Obama vacations amidst lush $9 million tropical surroudings on Kailua Beach, Hawaii, the Bush family continues to enjoy relatively modest digs in Crawford, Texas (hardly a destination of the rich and famous).
It's easy to talk the talk. Walking the walk? Well, that's quite another matter.

Nice picture. It's a shame that it can't really do justice to the 1583acres that ht eranch covers; or to the 11 acre lake that's stocked with 600 bass; or the helicopter hangar. Now, I agree that Bush's place is homely, in a vast sort of way. But I'd say that you can't really equate the Obama trip to the Bush "vacations". Why?
Because if Obama took over 400 days of vacation in 8 years like Bush did, he'd be broke if he were to spend them in Hawaii.
So in that respect, I guess Bush has been thrifty. I just wish he'd spend moretime on the job listening to things; like reports about hurricanes....
"Man of the People" vs. "The Part-Time President"
How fair is that?
Oh, and before anyone decides to tell me that the ranch can serve as a seocnd office, and that Bush gets stuff done there, here's something interesting:
"The White House possesses no archived e-mail messages for many of its component offices, including the Executive Office of the President and the Office of the Vice President, for hundreds of days between 2003 and 2005, according to the summary of an internal White House study that was disclosed yesterday by a congressional Democrat." -

C'mon, Draco -- You're a very well-read young man. You know The Village Voice is a radical rag.
Still, you keep us all on our toes.
By now you've probably figured out that I love playing the proverbial provacateur to your pensive skeptic.
All that acreage in Texas is just that -- acreage. It's just a bunch of dusty, barren land in the middle of nowhere. Trust me, I have friends who live near Crawford. There NOTHING there. It's not like it's a resort or something. Nada.
So, where will President Obama go to get away from it all? Hawaii's way too far away for a quick trip. Camp David is nice but it's still confining - and vaguely military. That won't sit well with Obama.
I predict he'll hang out in the People's Republic of Taxachusetts; probably in Martha's Vineyard with the Harvard set. Now THAT'S the common touch!
