In a strongly-worded editorial, The Newark Star Ledger is calling for a federal investigation into the campaign tactics of Camden County Congressman John Adler.
I've warned that this story will not go away until the Adler camp comes clean.
And so the story continues to make headlines.
Be sure of this: These are serious allegations.
Here's part of what the Star Ledger says:
The evidence shows that Rep. John Adler — and-or his campaign workers — probably did something sleazy. The question is: Did they do something illegal? It’s time for the Federal Election Commission to dust tea party candidate Peter DeStefano for fingerprints and find out. . . .
Enlisting volunteers or staff to help DeStefano is legal as long as the cost of that help doesn’t exceed $2,000 from Adler and $5,000 from the Camden County Democratic Committee. But it still must be reported — and that, of course, would be a confession.
Adler has said, “I know nothing. I knew nothing.” The FEC could help clarify matters for him.
