Statement from Ann Romney:
I was deeply saddened by the death of Elizabeth Edwards. I got to know her on the road during the 2008 campaign at a forum for candidate spouses in California, moderated by Maria Shriver. It was one of my first public events. She was extremely warm and gracious, both on stage and in private. After the campaign ended, facing a cancer diagnosis myself, Elizabeth was among the first to check in with encouragement and support. I have incredible respect for the courage she showed throughout her own illness. She faced it bravely, and without complaint. Both Mitt and I send our thoughts and prayers to Elizabeth's family
