The Real Story Behind The Bandstand Theme Song
The song was called "Bandstand Boogie."
And some people say it wasn't actually chosen by Dick Clark. Rather, it was reportedly chosen by the first (and original) host of TV's Bandstand, Bob Horn.
Anyway, in 1952, big band musician and arranger Les Elgart teamed up with his brother Larry and recorded this song which was later used as the theme for the longest-running musical show in television history, "American Bandstand". The song helped catapult Clark and the show to international fame.
Barry Manilow would later add lyrics to this very recognizable theme.
