Philly Shines In 'Frozen Four' Finals!

The NCAA has declared the 2014 Men’s Frozen Four in Philadelphia an enormous success, according to Kristin Fasbender, NCAA Associate Director of Championships and Alliance. The frozen Four is the collegiate ice hockey championship. It is to hockey what the Final Four is to basketball.

“Comcast-Spectacor, the City of Philadelphia and the ECAC have been incredible hosts," said Fasbender. "The local organizing committee put together a fantastic week for the student athletes and our fans. This has been one of the best Frozen Four experiences ever. All the coaches from the teams competing have had nothing but positive things to say. Philadelphia truly is a hockey town.”

“We are thrilled and the coaches from the four teams have been happy. That makes everyone on our end happy as well,” said Jim Knowlton, NCAA Committee Chair and Director of Athletics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. “We have the next four years lined up, but after that it goes out to bid again. We have enjoyed Philly, and I’m sure Philly has enjoyed us. Philadelphia will be under consideration because they did a great job with hosting this year.”

“Due to the success of the 2014 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four, Global Spectrum and the Wells Fargo Center have positioned ourselves as a prime candidate to host future events of this caliber,” said Global Spectrum’s Matt Homan, General Manager of the Wells Fargo Center. “We hope to further grow our already well-established relationship with the NCAA and bring other NCAA events to the City of Philadelphia.”

“We are thrilled at the success of the Frozen Four,” commented Steve Hagwell, Commissioner of ECAC Hockey and Tournament Director. “The event exceeded all expectations we had, and the execution by all involved was seamless.”

The Frozen Four attracted over 15,000 out-of-town visitors to the city of Philadelphia, generating an economic impact of $10 million dollars. The event helped the Wells Fargo Center generate $353,000 in media exposure during the ESPN2 nationally-televised semifinal games on April 10, according to Front Row Analytics. Additionally, Front Row Analytics reported the City of Philadelphia garnered over $590,000 during the broadcast on ESPN2. Front Row Analytics is a subsidiary of Comcast-Spectacor.

XFINITY Live! Philadelphia, host of the official fan headquarters Frozen Fest, saw over 13,000 fans take part in festivities celebrating NCAA Men's Hockey.
