Abraham Blasts Clarke, Council On PGW Debacle

A special message from the Lynne Abraham for Mayor campaign:

Last week, the mayor and city council president’s lack of leadership were once again on display. When approached with an opportunity to sell Philadelphia Gas Works – potentially improving service to city residents, substantially reducing the city’s pension liabilities and addressing long-needed infrastructure overall. They responded with complete paralysis. Instead of embracing this opportunity, the city council president, Darrell Clarke, didn’t consider the proposal on its merits and refused to hold a public hearing.

Unfortunately, this is just the latest example of the shameful failure of leadership. That’s why Lynne is running for Mayor.

The response to Lynne’s campaign has been incredibly enthusiastic. Everywhere she goes she continues to hear from residents in all walks of life about the problems we face and the need for a fresh approach to address our city's problems – and she has the drive, energy, experience, and guts to get it done.

Weak and political leadership has brought this city down, as evidenced in the PGW debacle. Lynne will bring dynamic, transformational leadership to make Philadelphia the Next Great American City.

But she needs your support to get it done. Take a moment and show your support for new leadership by signing our petition.

Thank you,

-Team Lynne

And more, from Lynne . . . . . . .

Yesterday, I delivered a letter to City Council President Darrell Clarke demanding that he invite UIL Holdings back to the table and conduct a hearing on the merits of the PGW sale. You can read the letter at http://lynneabraham.com/uploads/Letter_to_Council_President_Clarke_re_PGW.pdf

Not even holding a hearing about the potential sale is inexcusable. The Council President owes it to the people of the City of Philadelphia, the people who use the gas service and, especially, the 65,000 depending on our at-risk pension fund.

A lot of you have already stepped up, but if you haven’t yet - show your support for my campaign by visiting http://LynneAbraham.com/StandWithLynne or make a donation to my campaign at http://LynneAbraham.com/donate.

Thank you for your support,
Lynne Abraham
