Yes, it does seem rather simplistic -- if not downright indifferent.
But sometimes you have to wonder if we're condemned to forever relive the past -- a past that most of us had absolutely nothing to do with. For example, my grandparents and great-grandparents weren't even in this country at the time of slavery and the civil war and reconstruction and so forth.
Well, whatever.
It's something to think about . . . .
