New Jersey State Senator Edward Durr says the Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) needs to own up to its mistakes and that the recent commentsmade by MVC Chief Sue Fulton are unhelpful and out of touch.

“It’s shocking that the MVC Chief would blame New Jerseyans for the agency’s abysmal performance during the pandemic. Perhaps the individuals in charge should focus more on addressing the concerns of drivers instead of playing the blame game,” said Durr (R-3). “The fact is, since the beginning of this pandemic, most New Jerseyans have had to put up with persistent lines, extremely long wait times, and poor customer service. This is inexcusable, and if the MVC were in the private sector, it would have been put out of business a long time ago.”
Republicans have repeatedly called on the Murphy Administration to make significant changes to the MVC so that it could properly serve New Jerseyans during the pandemic.
One issue, of many, concerns vehicle and license transactions not being offered in the same facility. Due to this decision, many people have to travel an even farther distance to complete such transactions. There is currently no plan to reverse this policy.
“The MVC needs to stop using COVID as an excuse for its poor service,” added Durr. “If private sector businesses can operate normally, despite the challenges of the pandemic, we should expect nothing less of important government services like the MVC.”
