Thirty-one states have made English their official language, and more than three-quarters of Americans now believe that should be a nationwide policy
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 78% of American adults think English should be the official language of the United States. Only 14% disagree. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

The survey of 1,000 U.S. American Adults was conducted on April 6-7, 2022 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.
