Another Big Corporate Name Leaves NJ, Jobs Flee!

New Jersey State Senate Republican Leader Anthony M. Bucco (R-Morris, Passaic) released the following statement regarding the news that Mars Wrigley is closing its Newark headquarters, eliminating 307 jobs all while planning a $100 million expansion of its Chicago headquarters:

“The news that Mars Wrigley is closing up shop and eliminating more than 300 jobs in Newark is frustrating because of how entirely avoidable this, and every other announcement like this, is. For the families affected, this isn't about corporate headlines, it's about wondering how they'll pay the mortgage, whether they'll have to find another job, or even uproot their family to earn a living somewhere else. And it doesn't stop with those workers. It's the local restaurants and small businesses they supported, the trade workers who worked at the facility, and countless others who will feel the undefined economic impact. Unfortunately, more and more New Jerseyans are being forced to ask those same questions as companies decide to invest in other states instead of ours.

“Trenton Democrats have spent years assuming businesses and taxpayers would keep footing the bill for their endless taxes and spending while repeatedly ignoring commonsense Republican proposals that would make New Jersey more competitive. Now we're seeing the consequences. New Jersey has everything it needs to succeed, but until we make it more affordable to live, work, and do business here, more employers will leave and more families will be left wondering if they're next.”

Below are other recent examples of businesses either closing operations in New Jersey or investing in other states instead of New Jersey:

June 2026: Samsung announced they are moving its U.S. headquarters from Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey to Plano, Texas, by the end of 2026
May 2026: Exxon Mobil shareholders approved the company's plan to redomicile in Texas
February 2026: Johnson & Johnson announced a more than $1 billion investment in a next generation manufacturing facility in Pennsylvania instead of New Jersey
December 2025: Anheuser-Busch announced they were closing the iconic Newark brewery

He served as Chair of Penn State University's Professional Advisory Board for the Corporate Communication major at Penn State Abington and on the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Judicial Selection Commission.

He received his MA degree from Rowan University and his BA from Villanova University. He has been named a Distinguished Alumnus of Rowan's public relations program and received the E. A. "Wally" Richter Leadership Award, the highest honor from the National Association of Bar Executives' Communications Section. He has also been honored by numerous other local, state and national groups.

In his hometown of Camden, Cirucci taught fifth grade at the Ulysses Wiggins Elementary School named for the founder of the Camden NAACP. There he was one of the first teachers in the country to teach African-American history to inner city students. He later served as editor of a local weekly newspaper, as Assistant to the Township Manager of Cherry Hill Township and as Associate Director of Communications at the New Jersey State Bar Association.

Cirucci's passions include all things Italian, politics, the popular culture, books and authors, art, communication, music, theatre, movies, dining and travel.

He and his wife Carole have two grown children and seven grandchildren.
