Remembering Judge Frederica Massiah-Jackson

We're sad to hear of the passing of a true Philadelphia trailblazer, Judge Frederica Massiah-Jackson. "Judge Freddie" as she was known to many members of the Philadelphia legal community and others who counted her as a friend, was scrupulously honest, fair, forthright and resolute.

Her name itself sounded imposing and suggested gravitas but Frederica Massiah-Jackson was one of the warmest, most human and most accessible jurists we've ever known. She was rare in that one could simultaneously hold her in the highest esteem and with the greatest affection. A Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas judge, civil jury trailblazer, and the first African American president judge in Pennsylvania, she passed away last week at the age of 74 -- way too soon and way too early as far as we're concerned.

The Philadelphia Bar Association confirmed her death and extended its condolences. Indeed, it was the Association itself, under the courageous leadership of then Chancellor Mark Aronchick that championed her nomination to the federal bench during a stormy confirmation battle in 1998 that remains one of the Association's finest moments, even though Judge Massiah-Jackson's nomination regrettably never made it to the US Senate floor for a vote.

Judge Massiah-Jackson  served on the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas from 1984 to 2021, presiding over medical malpractice and products liability cases, commercial litigation, and personal injury matters. Born Nov. 10, 1950, she practiced law with the Philadelphia firm Blank Rome Comisky & McCauley before joining the bench. She also previously served as a law clerk to one of the giants of the profession (and a true trailblazer in his own right) Justice Robert N.C. Nix of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Bar Association Chancellor Katayun I. Jaffari remembered Massiah-Jackson as a historic figure in Philadelphia’s judiciary, whose commitment and leadership over decades broke barriers and inspired others.

“The Association joins the legal community in mourning this tremendous loss and offers our heartfelt sympathies to her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working alongside President Judge Massiah-Jackson,” Jaffari said.

Judge Massiah-Jackson made history as the first African American woman to preside over civil jury trials in Philadelphia, the first African American president judge of any county in Pennsylvania, and one of only five women among the 80 judges on the Board of Common Pleas in 1980.

After graduating from the Philadelphia High School for Girls at 16, Massiah-Jackson earned a bachelor’s of arts from Chestnut Hill College and a juris doctor degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

While at Penn, she joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She was a lecturer for 10 years at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where she taught legal studies and business law.

Massiah-Jackson ran the largest common pleas court system in the state and one of the largest of its type in the country. She led Pennsylvania's First Judicial District, overseeing 130 judges, 2,500 employees and a $110 million budget. She strengthened public trust in the courts and promoted fairness by raising pay for court-appointed counsel, implementing a mitigation protocol for death penalty cases, opening the First Judicial District Information Center, and launching programs to advance race and gender equity in the courtroom.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. Jackson III. She is survived by her children, Julia L. Jackson and Thomas H. Jackson IV, and other family members and friends.

Services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 10, at St. Malachy Church, 1429 N. 11th St.

A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. A requiem mass will be held at 11 a.m.

Wood Funeral Home Inc., is handling the arrangements.

Here We Go Again: Harassing The Little Sisters!

A very special message from CatholicVote.org:

The Little Sisters of the Poor are being targeted again.

They’ve faced similar legal challenges before and won. But every hour spent in court is an hour stolen from the work God has called them to do.

In yet another blow to religious freedom, a federal judge in Pennsylvania has ruled against the Little Sisters and the 2017 Trump administration rule allowing religious exemptions to an Obama-era contraceptive mandate.

So, back to court they must go.

The judge, by the way, was appointed by the Obama administration, which forced the Little Sisters into years of litigation and ended up with the administration losing when a 2020 Supreme Court decision confirmed the Sisters’ exemption.

Why are we rehashing a situation the Supreme Court ruled on five years ago?

States like Pennsylvania and New Jersey have remained obstinate in opposing the exemption since it was first issued. Technicalities around the scope of the aforementioned Supreme Court decision are being used by an activist judge to once again distract the Little Sisters from their mission to care for the elderly poor.

This is grandstanding, plain and simple: another attempt to score political points while trampling Constitutional religious freedoms. It also continues the tiresome trend of federal judges issuing nationwide rulings intended to disrupt Trump administration policies like the one that granted the exemption in the first place.

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, we must stand together as patriotic Catholics to defend the freedoms our founders intended and our faith demands. Freedoms like the one the Little Sisters of the Poor are trying to preserve. Please, pray for them and for the conversion of hearts among those who believe they are doing good by taking these faithful women to court.

Go forward bravely,

Kelsey Reinhardt

Top Court Limits Lower Court Powers: TRUMP WIN!

BREAKING:

The United States Supreme Court today ruled that lower courts likely overstepped their authority in issuing nationwide injunctions against presidential actions, limiting the ability of the judicial branch to check executive power.

This is a major victory for the Trump administration, which has denounced “judicial overreach” as an unconstitutional obstacle to its policies.

The court, in a 6-3 decision by Justice Amy Coney Barrett, faulted lower courts for issuing universal injunctions that blocked Trump’s policy across the U.S. The court said that because such orders go beyond providing relief to the plaintiffs, they “likely exceed” the authority Congress granted to district judges.

Why Is A Judge Protecting These Brutal Criminals?

It’s another attempt by a far-left activist judge to dictate the foreign policy of the United States — and protect the violent criminal illegal immigrants President Donald J. Trump and his administration have removed from our streets.

“We conducted a deportation flight from Texas to remove some of the most barbaric, violent individuals illegally in the United States. No country on earth wanted to accept them because their crimes are so uniquely monstrous and barbaric … Thanks to the courageous work of the State Department and ICE and the President’s national security team, we found a nation that was willing to accept custody of these vicious illegal aliens,” said Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

“As a career law enforcement officer and a career officer with ICE, I’ve been dealing with these recalcitrant countries for years — having to see repeated murders, sex offenders, violent criminals re-released back into the United States because their home countries would not take them back,” said Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons“Under President Trump and under the leadership of Secretary Noem, we are now able to remove these public safety threats so they won’t prey on the community anymore.”

Here are the criminal illegal immigrant monsters the activist judge is trying to protect:
Enrique Arias-Hierro, a citizen of Cuba. He has convictions for homicide, armed robbery, strongarm robbery, kidnapping, and false impersonation of an official. He was arrested by ICE on May 2, 2025.
Jose Manuel Rodriguez-Quinones, a citizen of Cuba. He has convictions for attempted first degree murder with a weapon, battery, larceny, cocaine possession, and cocaine trafficking. He was arrested by ICE on April 30, 2025.
Thongxay Nilakout, a citizen of Laos. He has convictions for first-degree murder and robbery. He was arrested by ICE on January 26, 2025.
Jesus Munoz-Gutierrez, a citizen of Mexico. He has a conviction for second-degree murder. He was arrested by ICE on May 12, 2025.
Dian Peter Domach, a citizen of South Sudan. He has convictions for robbery, possession of a firearm, possession of burglar’s tools, possession of a defaced firearm, and driving under the influence. He was arrested by ICE on May 8, 2024.
Kyaw Mya, a citizen of Burma. He has a conviction for lascivious acts with a child victim less than 12 years of age. He was arrested by ICE on February 18, 2025.
Nyo Myint, a citizen of Burma. He has a conviction for first-degree sexual assault involving a victim mentally and physically incapable of resisting and has also been charged with aggravated assault (non-family strongarm). He was arrested by ICE on February 19, 2025.
Tuan Thanh Phan, a citizen of Vietnam. He has convictions for first-degree murder and second-degree assault. He was arrested by ICE on May 3, 2025.
“A local judge in Massachusetts is trying to force the United States to bring back these uniquely barbaric monsters who present a clear and present threat to the safety of the American people and American victims. While we are fully compliant with the law and court orders, it is absolutely absurd for a district judge to try and dictate the foreign policy and national security of the United States of America,” said Assistant Secretary McLaughlin.

Keep This In Mind -- Especially Now!

Is It The Law; Or Just Judges VS Trump?

Yes, these figures have been verified. During Barack Obama’s presidency from 2009 to 2017, there were five million deportations, while George W. Bush’s tenure saw 10 million, and Bill Clinton’s administration reached 12 million.

This Pretty Much Says It All!

A Grandstander Who Ignores Atrocious Crimes!

Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) is currently in El Salvador out of concern for an illegal immigrant MS-13 gang member and human trafficker, for whom he “won’t stop fighting until he’s home.”

The criminal illegal immigrant is already home — he’s a Salvadoran citizen.

Where was the Maryland senator’s concern when one of his own constituents, Rachel Morin — an innocent mother of five — was brutally murdered by an illegal immigrant? Van Hollen didn’t even bother to contact her family.

Where was his concern when an accused killer was allowed to roam free due to the so-called “sanctuary” policies of his state’s second-most populous county? Van Hollen didn’t say a word about the radical policies that put his constituents at risk.

And where was his concern for Maryland constituents put at risk by the many other illegal immigrants allowed to roam free until now? Here is a tiny sample of the criminal illegal immigrants arrested by ICE in Maryland in recent days:

Jing Ming Long, a 50-year-old citizen of China, arrested by ICE Baltimore. Long has a conviction for sex trafficking in Bel Air, Maryland.

Salvador Vasquez-Rivera, a citizen of El Salvador, arrested in Hagerstown, Maryland, by ICE Baltimore. He has a conviction for sexual abuse of a minor.

David Alejandro Orellana-Aleman, a 27-year-old citizen of El Salvador, arrested in Hyattsville, Maryland, by ICE Baltimore. He is a high-ranking leader of the MS-13 gang who controlled gang operations across the U.S., Mexico, and Europe.

Edvin Giovanni Ceron-Reyes, a 37-year-old citizen of Guatemala, arrested in Cumberland, Maryland, by ICE Baltimore. He has a conviction for attempted first-degree murder.

Juan Carlos Vasquez-Natera, a 33-year-old citizen of Venezuela, arrested in Frederick, Maryland, by ICE Baltimore. He has a conviction for sexual solicitation of a minor.

Wilmer Antonio Echenique-Navarro, a 22-year-old citizen of Venezuela, arrested in Takoma Park, Maryland, by ICE Baltimore. He is a known member of the vicious Tren de Aragua gang.

German Ronal Del Cid Carranza, a 33-year-old citizen of El Salvador, arrested in Silver Spring, Maryland, by ICE Baltimore. He is a known member of the MS-13 gang with a conviction for possession of a loaded handgun.

Georges Olivier Daceus, a 27-year-old citizen of Canada, arrested in Hagerstown, Maryland, by ICE Baltimore. He has a conviction for third-degree sexual offense.

Chuan En Liu, a 48-year-old citizen of China, arrested in Gaithersburg, Maryland, by ICE Baltimore. He has a conviction for second-degree assault.

What If This Turns Out To Be Accurate?
