AC Alliance Launches Social Media Outreach

The Atlantic City Alliance (ACA) will launch its 2014 social media campaign at NMX: New Media Expo in Las Vegas January 3 - 6. ACA will be joined by Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri to kick off a big year of social media initiatives by hosting the first ever live @VisitAC Twitter chat Friday, January 3 at 6pm PST or 9pm EST.

NMX (formerly known as BlogWorld) is the largest gathering of bloggers, podcasters and web TV content creators in the world.  Atlantic City is the exclusive tourist destination participating and will host the Official Tourism Cocktail Reception for NMX attendees on Saturday, January 4 at 6:30pm to preview Atlantic City's big news for 2014.

"We felt like NMX was the perfect venue to launch our 2014 social media campaign," explained Liza Cartmell, ACA President. "We recognize the importance of social media on the extension of the DO AC brand and we want to tap into the influencers at NMX to help create the buzz necessary to drive people to visit AC."

Throughout the weekend ACA will be recruiting and interviewing influencers in order to partner with 50-75 of the top bloggers and content creators to become Atlantic City advocates. They will expand the city's image, drive traffic to doatlanticcity.com and stimulate new visitation.

ACA's 2014 social media campaign focuses on the pillars of travel, shopping, dining, nightlife, entertainment and gaming. 2014 highlights include:

  • Attending major bloggers events/conferences like NMX throughout the year and recruiting AC advocates
  • Hosting and sponsoring Twitter chats as well as DO AC Twitter and Facebook takeovers

  • Launching Instagram initiatives to show AC through photographs
  • Stimulating meeting and convention visitation through LinkedIn
  • Hiring new DO Crew brand ambassadors for in and out-of-market events

Giant Mushroom Welcomes 2014 In Iconic Town

Thanks goodness it wasn't a mushroom cloud.
But that really was a giant mushroom in the sky over the small town of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania last night. And as it started descending just before the stroke of midnight it delighted residents and visitors alike. Organizers say it was a 700 hundred pound behemoth, if you can imagine that.
This was the first-ever "mushroom drop" in Kennett Square which bills itself as the mushroom capital of the world. Indeed, the mushroom farming in the region around Kennett produces over one million pounds of mushrooms a week!
So, it was fitting that the new year would start in the same way that every day in Kennett begins: with mushrooms. We're told that a great time was had by all in the picture-postcard town that epitomizes old-fashioned American values.
And, as you can see Adam Cirucci and Gina Basciani Cirucci were there enjoying it along with everyone else.
Special thanks to Jennifer Toto Basciani for the photos and a warm shootout to the entire Basciani clan and everyone at Basciani Foods.
Happy New Year!

10 Reasons Why New Year's Day Is Stupid

We've always pretty much hated New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
But for a long time we couldn't figure out why.
Now, we finally get it: They're downright innocuous.
Here then, in no particular order are the Ten Big Reason why the New Year's "holiday" is dumb, dumb, dumb:
1) There is absolutely no significant historical meaning to the day.
2) How many bowl games can you watch, anyway?
3) The day celebrates not the beginning of anything but rather the end -- the end of the joyous holiday season.
4) The Tournament of Roses Parade and other New Year's spectacles are all pretty much the same year-after-year.
5) You know it's true: Nobody keeps New Year's resolutions.
6) Celebrating the passing of time is like celebrating the inexorable march to your own death.
7) After Christmas, no other holiday on the immediate horizon can compete.
8) By January 1 you're completely stuffed and don't even wanna look at food. You're facing the grueling regimen of a diet.
9) All you have to look forward to are the two bleakest months of the year: January and February (and March ain't much better).
10) It'll take you weeks to get used to writing 2014 and you may still be thinking 2013, even in April.
The bottom line: New Year's Day is just another day on the calendar.
