Let The Light Shine Bright For All, Happy Hanukkah!

Hanukkah begins today at sundown and continues over the next eight days.
Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday celebrated for eight days and nights. It starts on the 25th of the Jewish month of Kislev, which coincides with late November-late December on the secular calendar.
In Hebrew, the word "hanukkah" means “dedication.” The name reminds us that this holiday commemorates the re-dedication of the holy Temple in Jerusalem following the Jewish victory over the Syrian-Greeks in 165 B.C.E.

Hanukkah is a beautiful celebration of endurance and the triumph of religious freedom.
Each day at sundown one more candle is lit until the entire Hannukkah menorah glows with the light of the holiday. That's why you will not see the candles (or electric lights) on the menorah fully lit for seven of the eight days.

May the glow of the Hanukkah candles bring you the gift of 

renewed faith, joy and contentment!

Warm, generous, thoughtful statements about President George H. W. Bush are pouring in from leaders and ordinary citizens all over the world.
The response has been overwhelming as people remember a kind, decent and caring man who led our nation with grace and dignity. Even those who disagreed with him politically from time to time have put aside whatever differences they may have had to remember an American hero and patriot on the occasion of his passing. As evidence of this, you need look no further than Bill Clinton, the man who defeated #41 in 1992 and became the 42nd President of the United States. President Clinton praises President Bush and to this day looks up to him as a sort of father figure.
But there's a jerk in every crowd -- someone who doesn't have the common sense or good manners of good breeding to do what is right and proper at a time like this.
And so the horse's ass award goes to Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney who felt the need to take a swipe at the late president for his "failed war on drugs" and policies "surrounding the AIDS epidemic." Yes, Mayor Kenney apparently felt he'd take this opportunity to try to pander and score political points on the occasion of a great leader's death.
In so doing, the mayor only showed how mean and petty he really is.
Shame on you, Jim Kenney.

Trump signed a historic trade deal with Mexico and Canada that will replace the outdated NAFTA. “Trump signed the U.S. Mexico Canada trade agreement in Argentina on the side of the G-20 summit,” Pete Kasperowicz reports in the Washington Examiner. “This is a model agreement that changes the trade landscape forever, and this is an agreement that first and foremost benefits working people, something of great importance to all three of us here today,” President Trump said.

Trump, First Lady Participate in Tree Lighting Ceremony —CBS News President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump “participated in the 96th National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on the Ellipse outside the White House on Wednesday, with the White House grounds fully decked out for the holidays,” CBS News reports. “The president had the crowd count down to the tree lighting with him. DHS: 110 Percent Surge in Migrant Men Using Kids to Enter US, ‘Rampant Fraud’ —Washington Examiner “Educated on a legal loophole that lets migrant ‘families’ with kids enter the United States, the Homeland Security Department reported Tuesday that men showing up with kids at the border has spiked 110 percent in just the last two years,” Paul Bedard reports. “The department noted that children could be used by smugglers and drug traffickers to enter the country. Families are also using fraud to game the immigration system. The department said that 170 families have been caught lying about their relationships to enter the U.S.”

US Consumer Spending Up Strong 0.6 Percent in October  —The Associated Press “Consumers boosted their spending in October at the fastest pace in seven months, while their incomes rose by the largest amount in nine months — both good signs for future economic growth,” Martin Crutsinger reports. “Consumer spending rose a sharp 0.6 percent last month, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. It was the biggest increase since a similar gain in March.”
