On this November 22, 2008, join us and zombietime.com in observing Victory in Iraq Day. Let us honor the sacrifice, dedication and sheer determination of American, coalition and Iraqi troops who have brought freedom to the nation and people of Iraq. Although our governments have chosen to not name any official day marking the end of this war, we the people have taken it upon ourselves to commemorate November 22, 2008 as the day of victory over the forces of tyranny, oppression and terror in Iraq. Join fellow bloggers and other members of the public in this virtual ticker-tape parade for our brave troops, to celebrate their success, to remember the fallen, and to declare, in the words of President John F. Kennedy (RIP):
"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty."

Following is a list of just some of the blogs from throughout the world that are celebrating Victory In Iraq Day and thanking our President George W. Bush and our brave men and women in our armed forces for making this possible. God Bless America!

I don't know why this irks me so much, but it does.
Let me say this: We should not have gone in there to begin with. So Bush gets 0 credit for me. Having found ouirselves in a place where we HAD to stay, I commend the troops and their families for the extraordinary job they've done.
But we haven't won. This is not a "war". This is a struggle that will last a lot longer than your generation, or mine. No one won here. No one lost.
The merit of this operation, this battle in the grander war on "terror", will be judged by the path Iraqis choose. Sure we've rid them of Saddam. But what if the country shifts toward Iran? What if they do decide to force the US to leave entirely, and our forces don't gain a foothold or operational launch-pad in Iraq?
Meanwhile, the people responsible for 9-11 are still running around.
I have a question for anyone that's willing to give me a straight answer, one that summarizes this outcome in a strateigic sense, rather than the generic "we fought for freedom and the Iraqi people": what have we gained?
I agree with Draco. This whole concept is pretty sick.
History will judge what we've gained.
But one thing's for sure: We've sent a clear message that we're not afraid to fight and win.
This whole notion that we haven't "won" or "lost" is hopelessly nebulous. It's typically liberal to say there is no winning or losing, no right or wrong, no good or evil, no success or failure. And this is dangerous as well.
Moral relativity is the road to ruin.
When Ronald Reagan was asked what his foreign policy was he answered: "My foreign policy? We win; they lose."
And it's not right to say that we haven't vanquished Al Quieda. Hundreds of them have been killed (included many higher-ups) and more have been captured and held. And from 9/11 onward (for seven years) there has not been another attack on America.
Still, no one was about to recognize what has been accomplished. So, some of us in the blogosphere took it upon ourselves to do that. We don't regret it. And we are determined to continue to stand together in the days ahead.
It's not that I don't understand where you're coming from, I just think that your concept of the "nebulous idea" is rooted in experiences that don't resemble the fight we're in today. You're right; we showed the world we'd fight and stay the course. But we did that at tremendous cost, and by grinding our military into the dirt.
We killed no Al Qieda leader in Iraq that was of great import. We've wrestled power away from a Sunni dictator, and democratically ensured that the Shi'ite majority will most likely lead the country. We've spent $10 billion a month, while the country's economy is in tatters.
What we've also showed is a propensity to charge into a fight that is not ours, and the stubborness to stay, no matter what the cost. We're like a gambler, unwilling to get up from the table.
Menwhile, we've surely demonstrated that we can't catch a six foot Arab, even while using the most sophisticated technology on the planet. We've lost ground in Afghanistan, and we've created a messy situation with Pakistan regarding incursions into their territory.
The Reagan quote is great, but it misses the point. There's no win here. There's better, and there's worse. We are not, by Bush's own words, fighting a conventional war. Violence and hate will continue until we pull our troops out of the Middle East, and we figure out what to do about the Israel/Palestine issue.
In other words, we'll be fighting them until the ME runs out of oil. When that happens, this will all fade away, and something else can start.
I've told you before that I see the history of our ancestors, the Romans, when I look at this point in time. And as history shows, we're in big trouble, unless we find a way to think and act differently. The world's not as simple as win or lose anymore. Actually, it's never been that simple.
