We had a marvelous dinner over the weekend at Radicchio Cafe just north of the Ben Franklin Bridge (at Wood and York Sts.) in Philadelphia.
Radicchio is a cozy, inviting BYOB where you can enjoy freshly prepared, imaginative Italian dishes.
Although casual and fairly inexpensive Radicchio Cafe comes with a pedigree. In fact it was opened in 2000 by the owner of Laceno Italian Grill, a popular and long established Italian restaurant in Voorhees, South Jersey.
But this is not to be confused with any storefront or shopping center restaurant.
This is a tempting, informal trattoria with a sophisticated, authentic Italian vibe.
And it sits in a lovely neighborhood between Old City and Northern Liberties.
We enjoyed an arugula salad and a grilled calamari salad followed by grilled salmon filet, topped with diced asparagus and tomato, balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil and farfale with jumbo lump crab meat, oil, garlic, arugula and fresh sliced tomato. We topped it all off with double espressos.
Every dish was delicious and beautifully presented.
We had a lovely window table. The windows were open to sidewalk al fresco dining and the evening was perfect weather wise.
After dinner we walked under the bridge and over to Old City where we delighted in fresh made ice cream at The Franklin Fountain.
