Lovin A Primanti Sandwich In Pittsburgh!

I've been to nearly every major city in the United States . . . . .
Except Pittsburgh.
I've never visited Pittsburgh.
Until now.
And now that I'm here, I'm having a great time.
Our very first stop after arriving in Pittsburgh and checking into the hotel was Primanti Bothers. Before we did anything else, we wanted to have a Primanti sandwich.
We heard about them.
We read about them.
We saw them on the Food Network and the Travel Channel.
So we went to the original Primanti Brothers in Pittsburgh's Strip District to taste the real thing.
Primanti has been a Pittsburgh institution since the 1930s.
Now there are 15 restaurants that sell Primanti sanwiches in the Pittsburgh area and four in Florida. But the Strip District is "home." This is where it all began.
Primanti sandwiches are unique. Each sandwich consists of sizzling meat, cheese, hand-cut french fries, tomatoes and coleslaw between two slices of thick Italian bread. Yeah -- the fries are in the sandwich!
We shared two Primantis: one cheesesteak and one sausage.
We were told that the cheesesteak is Primanti's signature sandwich. The steak was not chopped or shredded but rather consisted of thinly sliced beef -- somewhat like a burger. And, we chose the sweet sausage because we figured the sandwich would be tangy enough.
We wondered how the fries would hold up inside the sandwich. In fact, they remained remarkably crisp.
The cole slaw was sweet and delightful.
The melted cheese was dreamy.
The meat was hot and tender.
And the bread was up to the challenge of holding it all together.
Every ingredient is so freah that the aroma is inoxicating and the first bite is indescribable. You'll want it to last forever.
But a Primanti sandwich is best eaten quickly to savor the lucious flavor. And fortunately, despite its size you will eat this sandwich faster than you think.
These delights are served on paper. There are no plates and no utencils. You just dig in with your hands, your mouth, your tongue and your teeth. It's totally tactile and richly oral.
After this, it doesn't really matter what else we do in Pittsburgh. Of course, we'll see aditional sights and delight in additional pleasures. But it's hard to imagine anything topping a Primanti sandwich.
Magnifico!

Dan,
You've reinvented yourself as a food critic, and I love it. I feel like a got to enjoy the Primanti sandwich with you -- without the calories. That's what good writing does, and you are a pro!

I'm not even quite sure how this happened.
But I am enjoying it.
And I thank you for your comments, though my writing is not nearly as lean and elegant as yours -- and that goes for my appearance as well.
