The Phillies' Jayson Werth is going to the Washington Nationals.
Werth was a free agent.
As I understand it, that meant he was up for sale.
He was "sold" to the Nationals, meaning that they made him a great offer and he accepted it.
When free agency came to be, baseball ceased to be a "sport" and became a business. It was pretty much a business all along but that made it Big Business. Pro sports -- ALL pro sports -- are Big Businesses.
So, as far as I can tell, all this carping and griping about Jayson Werth is stupid. It's his life. He's a commodity -- a talent for sale. He can sell himself (his talent) anyway he wants. he's decided to go to Washington.
These are the rules now. This stuff has been litigated and this is what the courts have decided.
Jayson Werth as a Phillie is history, OK?
Let it go.
